@hobbesgal you are right, the bride is entitled to wear whatever she chooses; but I personally think so many other colors are prettier/more flattering but generally wearing white is a symbol of innocence and sexual purity.  For me neither were true for my 1st wedding either so there is that.

That's your opinion. In some cultures white represent openness and truth. I didn't get a wedding. I will be wearing the whitest dress that ever was white when we do a ceremony.

Edited to add; How many brides would be wearing white if a white dress was restricted to sexual purity? Are we talking penetrative, oral, making out?

What actions will defile you from being eligible for a white dress?

Bring on the leggings as pants!
Someone in my office is legit wearing tights (I call them tights because they are see through) and a sweater that goes about 3 inches past her crotch. Can't wait for this conversation.
I gave up leggings after discovering pointe pants and I will never go back!

@ToryKate  my opinion is that 2nd time baby shower's are not, automatically, gift grabby.  I'm ok with you not feeling the same.  I think showers/gifts  for the mom to be/bride to be, etc are given to honor the recipient  and people give gifts hopefully because they want to not out of obligation.

I have been given gifts out of the blue, for no particular reason except the person wanted to do something for me now that is a loving gesture no matter the circumstances.  I have also gone to and had others come to parties and given no gifts and nothing ill was ever felt on my part.

I choose to agree to disagree with those that harbor such angst over 2nd. showers, etc..  Its been discussed several times and I'm ok with those that disagree with me without going into ever single  particular checklist item that makes it acceptable (years apart, ?what amount of time frame I guess about 5 years, seems dependent on individual ideas, 2nd marriages/1st child for one of the parents, etc)

UO: I want Halloween to be over so I can decorate for Christmas the day after.
But what about Thanksgiving? What did Thanksgiving ever do to you?

My UO: Other than the music, I could live without Christmas. Thanksgiving is the best holiday of the year.
Legit question: do people decorate for Thanksgiving? I have seen general fall decor, and I am sure there are Thanksgiving specific items out there. But I don't know anyone who decorates their home for Thanksgiving the way they do for Halloween or Christmas. However I know the holiday is much bigger in the U.S, so I am wondering if that's a thing?

  • @LDW176‌ My MIL has a turkey shaped dish that she puts out on Thanksgiving, and my mom only uses her turkey platter on Thanksgiving (the only time she ever roasts a whole turkey), but I think you're pretty much right that general fall decor is more prevalent than specific Thanksgiving things.
    image
  • @ldw176 I guess I think of fall / Thanksgiving decor being generally the same thing. Although my mom and MIL both have a ton of turkey and cornucopia related decor as well, which seems pretty specific to Thanksgiving. My family could be weird.

  • My UO: aside from my husband and sometimes my parents, I hate getting gifts. I mean, I'm an adult, I have specific tastes for things, and I can afford my own stuff. I mostly hate that the more formal family members (**cough cough** DHs side...), will call me and bitch about it to my MIL if I don't send back a formal thank you note. Ugh...stop buying me stuff and giving me homework! I don't need another damn Lenox bowl!
    Or I'm just ungrateful. Whatever.

  • I loved everything about my wedding. The planning, the dress, the music, the drinks, I even loved doing the seating chart. I'd get married again in a heartbeat. I've actually toyed with the idea of getting in to wedding planning, I loved it that much.
I really loved my wedding, too. I also enjoyed planning it but I have no desire to plan anyone else's wedding.

  • I wear leggings around the house. I won't go out in public with them because I have a huge ass. When I buy them or yoga pants, I buy a size bigger than I need so they aren't see through.
I wear surgical scrubs at work. So I rarely get dressed. Therefore, I have a few pairs.

I also hate pork. The color kind of looks like chicken, but has the texture of steak. I can't handle it. It's too much to deal with.

  • Uh, so I was mad about the leggings being brought up again, but seriously, who has recommendations for some good leggings?  I had a pair that I loved from Jockey, but now they are getting worn out.  They were great for workout or for casual wear and I don't see those available on their website.

Any good recommendations?  I had some from Old Navy but they were not as good as the Jockey.

If you are a size 0/2/4 Target kids leggings are amazing!! The size 14/16 is basically a 2/4, and they are often only
$5!!!! Some are in weird little kid patterns that look like pajamas, but they have tons of solid colors too.

  • My UO is that I don't like when food or drinks are advertised with animals (cats and dogs). I love animals, but just don't get why people feel the need to put them in food commercials. I just saw Taylor swift's new diet coke commercial and it made me think of my opinion on the matter.

My UO - Pajamas should not be worn outside the house. I don't need to see you in your sleeping clothes when I'm out and about. Put on leggings or yoga pants!
This is weird to me. Is it the style of clothing that bothers you or that I slept in it? Because I mostly sleep in leggings / yoga pants / t-shirts, so in that case you seem to be OK with seeing me in my sleeping clothes when I'm out and about? I'm confused.

Interesting distinction. I have zero problem with PJs out of the house, but if I wear pjs overnight AND during the following day there is a bit of an ick factor and I usually feel compelled to change, especially if I leave the house.

If your PSL's taste burned, it's time to complain.  That barista doesn't know their shit.

I always get 1 every year and I swear they taste bitter. To be fair, I am not a HUGE pumpkin fan.

I love almost everything pumpkin, but PSLs are too sweet for my taste. Every fall when they come out, I have to remind myself that I do not like them so that I won't waste my money on a cup full of disappointment.

My UO is a tough one today.  I think Santa Claus is a crock of shit and always have, even since I was a kid.  Who wants a creepy dude coming into your house at night?  And from the parents' perspective, who wants some imaginary guy getting all the credit for the gifts that you bought?

DH and I are both total heathens and he was raised Jewish so I'm pretty sure our future kids won't have Santa Claus.  I feel guilty and conflicted about this at least once a month even though I can't stand that jolly old motherfucker.

I understand this, but more from a perspective of wanting to emphasize the religious parts of Christmas. I expressed this to DH once. It resulted in one of the more ridiculous arguments we've ever had.
