Grocery Store Baby-sitting

My grocery store offers childcare for kids who are potty trained. What do you think? Would you leave your kid(s) with the grocery store employee while you shopped (or while you sat in the cafe part of the store with a cup of coffee and People magazine)?

  • @bluedot818 At Wegmans, you have to register your kid and you're given a pager. I assume they ask for ID, though I don't know that for sure.

  • I would use it. Taking 3 kids grocery shopping is a task that makes me contemplate feeding my family take-out every night.
It's no different than gym babysitting, which I've used. You're in the building...so if there was an issue you would be easily reached.
There has to be a secure system in place. I guess if there wasn't, I'd think twice, but you'd have imagine this was well thought out.
Also, if your kid is potty trained, they should be able to verbalize that someone is/is not a parent.
  • Maybe if I has absolutely no other option and my LO is not having it with shopping. There would absolutely have to be great security in place. And I agree with @karich‌, if they are required to be potty trained, the will know who they are supposed to go with and will also speak up if something happened in there that shouldn't have while you were shopping.
  • I will absolutely use this service. And FFWC? I will probably use it for some mama time in the cafe on occasion. I feel like the grocery store I use (Wegmans) is high quality, and I don't think they'd offer this service half-assed. We're a few years from using it, but yes, my children are free to go to WKids. Everyday, if they'd like.

  • for now the grocery shopping is fine.
but i remember haaaaaaating going with my mom when i was a kid. i would always be cold and it was boring, my mom couponed so it took forever, and i never got to get anything special (unless there was a coupon) soi wish she would've left me in a day care that had toys!

so if LO is disinterested like i was, or i just needed to powershop, id use it.

  • I don't think any of the grocery stores around here do that anymore. I completely forgot about it until reading this post, but my mom used to let me play in the grocery store kids room when I was little, probably elementary school age so I was a little older. I'd only do it if I had to. If I need a break from my child, I'll leave her with someone else that I know.

  • Our Wegman's offers it, and it rocks. The ladies who work there are very nice, and it's really well run. My older two love it.
