Formula Feeding

how did you go from breast milk to formula?

My baby is 4 months now and i would like to wean off of breast milk to formula. Any ideas on how to do this over the course of a month? I don't pump currently, I only breast feed and have had a ton of problems with plugged ducts (hence wanting to wean).

Do you eliminate one feed and give them formula? Or do you have them drink less breast milk and give formula - and if so how do you know how much formula to give so that they are still full?

Any advice would be appreciated!!

  • I would suggest starting with switching one feed a day and just progress as fast as you want.
Maybe if you could try to pump and mix the formula and breast milk if baby has an issue with taking the formula. If there is no issue with the formula it wouldn't be nessesary to mix.
At four months Colson was taking 5oz at a feeding, maybe start with 6oz and see what lo takes then you can adjust from there.
I'm not sure if it would be confusing for lo to start with breast then go to bottle in the same feeding.

  • Thats what I am thinking I will do but i'm SO scared I will get a plugged duct:(!!

How long did you do this for, before you started to replace more than one meal? In other words how long did it take in total?

I am concurrently taking sage/peppermint tea and using cabbage leaves- who knows if this will help?
  • how long does it take? how many doses?
