Trying to Get Pregnant

BCP, Spotting, No Period on Placebo Pills

Hi Ladies,

Since you all are rockstars, I need a bit of advice on my BCP situation. My OB put me on BCP to regulate my long cycles. During the first month back on BCP, I had a bit of spotting during the second week. It didn't require a tampon. I know this is normal and can happen, and I kept taking the pills. I'm now starting the new pack of pills, and never got a period during the placebo week.

Should I anticipate another round of spotting? Since this is supposed to regulate my cycles, and it's not quite working, should I call the doc?

I just want to be reasonable, and I know you all will talk some sense into me. Thanks in advance! Heres a gif for your troubles. image

Re: BCP, Spotting, No Period on Placebo Pills

  • When I first started birth control pills I spotted randomly for the first few months. Same thing for most of my friends as well.  It takes a few months to adjust.  You shouldn't really expect anything right now.  I would say give it around 3 months to regulate.

  • Thanks everyone! I appreciate the perspective. I'll wait to see what the next round brings. @meatandbandp - you're right! That doc did want to prescribe it and certainly offered it. I haven't taken clomid yet, and thanks to you all, I won't be taking clomid from my OB. My OB is helping me regulate my cycles now, until I can get with an RE after the new year. Thanks again!
  • I think they say give it three months, then after that, if you're still experiencing breakthrough bleeding then to switch up to a different type of pill.

Wow, you really need a new doctor.  You should be starting with your RE going in with all-natural cycles i.e. no cycle-altering medication in your immediate history, so they can truly start to assess you for where you're at on your own, not trying to assess your body when it's just been artificially-hormonally controlled.  They will want to know what YOUR body does NATURALLY, not what it's been doing on medication.  You've heard how long it can take bodies to self-regulate after BCP, yeah?  The RE will want to test your levels at their natural state, so if you're just coming off of BCP that might set you back months before any accurate testing can be carried out.
