First month on vitex

edited October 2014 in Trying to Get Pregnant
Hey all, I was wondering if you could give me some opinions (especially if you've taken vitex)! I've been off the pill for four going on five months. My first Three cycles were 25-26 days and each started with one day of spotting. My last two Cycles were much shorter, at 23 days, starting with spotting the first day, and a lp of only 8 days. I started taking vitex this cycle on cd1 to help lengthen lp and decrease cramping and boob sensitivity. Today is cd28 and 11dpo and no AF yet. Started spotting lightly 7 DPO-10 DPO on and off with slight cramping a few of the days. My chart is normal and temperature is still up. Our timing was okay: -2 and -3. Opinions: Can vitex make you skip a period, or delay it this much in one cycle, or is it likely a BFP?

  • Vitex is strong medicine and just like any allopathic medicine must be taken for a specific reason, not just in hopes that it will "enhance fertility". I hope that you have legit reasons for taking it tha you have discussed with a doctor that is familiar with it. I am an herbalist and have knowledge about vitex--it can have a positive or negative effect, just like anything else.

  • 1). Half of the responses didn't include information from my original post. 2) three of them told me to take a test even though I'm 11 DPO and I'll likely get a negative regardless 3) only about two of the people that posted even mentioned being on vitex 4) you all know you can't see a doctor until a year TTC, and I'd rather not end up bitter from TTC forever

    1) was it really 50% on the money?
    2) because you're very specific here with "three"
    3) about 2?
    4) you can see a doctor any time. encouraged to do so even. prior to starting TTC.

Vitex screws with your hormones. If you don't need it, it can make things worse. If it's a supplement you're interested in taking, you should place a call to your OB. Asking about taking a supplement =/= seeking IF testing (what you're supposed to wait a year for).

I would hate for that to happen since you don't seem to take advice well or have a sense of humor. Yikes.

ETA: You can talk to your Dr. before the one year mark. It's not like you are banned from hospitals and doctor's offices.

    Nope.

A year TTC is the standard.  Let's not encourage crazies to go running off to the doctor after 4 months.
sorry I meant in the sense that you should have a check up. Dr =/= RE or specialist? Not that they'll tell you anything other than GL and good to know.

Um, OP? Hi, Cythe here. Its been a while since I've been in a classroom setting, but the formatting you've set in your outline of how we're supposed to respond seems a bit off.

What the fuck were we supposed to do, recap your OP in our responses?

The slickest way ever to call us bitter for not telling her Vitex will totes get her KU.
Gee, OP. Don't you think if there was some magical way to get you KU we'd all take it?
No because we all enjoy being bitter & picking on poor people who are just coming here for advice.

How a supplement affects one person doesn't necessarily mean it will affect you the same way.  Yes, Vitex can certainly alter your cycle.  Is that what is happening with yours?  Is it likely a BFP?  How the are we supposed to answer this for you?

Seeing a DR for fertility issues and seeking advice on your overall health are two separate things.  You obviously haven't researched Vitex enough to know the effects it could have and therefore asking your DR is probably a smart idea.

You'd think, but if you go on the vitex product review site (linked through gnc I think) there are no less than a dozen reviews that say some variation of, I tried for years to get pregnant with no luck, then I took vitex for two weeks and got pregnant. That is probably what OP was looking for. To read the reviews, you'd think that vitex not only causes ovulation on the spot but also guarantees successful implantation. It would be nice if all infertility problems were solved by a $10 dollar bottle of supplements from vitamin world.

If the OP is dumb enough to believe those reviews, I have some oceanfront property in Montana that would be perfect for her.

Oh man, I've seen some of it. Its beautiful!! I'd take this offer, OP.
That is what you (op) wanted, yes? Advice from internet strangers?
