Potty Training and cloth diapers question

I'm sure I'm overthinking this, but I'd like to know what I'm in for.

For those of you already past this, did you night train at the same time as day training? If not, and you still used a cloth diaper at night, how was your laundry routine? I'm imagining washing 2 diapers at a time and that seems like a waste of water and time, but I don't want to wash once a week or anything either. Do I just have to suck it up and night train too? For some reason, day training seems like NBD, but night time is daunting.

TIA!

  • Thanks ladies! Rinsing seems like a good idea, I so wish we had one of those giant laundry sinks. We've had ammonia issues in the past, so I'm hesitant to wash once a week, but I'm thinking with rinsing and bac out I can get away with twice a week instead of every other day.

  • We just PT'd in the last month.  Since the diapers are just pee, I just throw that one or two diapers in with the rest of my stuff, like towels.  He wakes up dry most days, so we COULD be night training, but I'm not ready to switch to a toddler bed.  I'll reuse the diaper for two days if it was dry.

But I'm also in the midst of destashing and I already have enough sposies to last until we night train (I didn't expect him to PT so fast) so I'm just going to destash the night diapers, too.
  • Thanks! I feel so stupid for this, but I'm actually sad to sell the diapers. P will most likely be an only, so there's no reason to save them really, but I feel attached to them. I can remember pictures of her as a tiny squish in some of them and it makes me kind of sad to see them go.

Yeah, I know exactly how you feel.  I'm sad, too.  I have one tiger print I bought him and he would creep around like a tiger. Not ready to sell it. And mine is also an only (for sure).  But the $$ is nice, too.

That's true, but I think I'm going to be a hoarder and keep this one as a keepsake, I just don't know if I can let it go, and I figure she might want to see it one day.

ETA- I finally understand why my mom kept so much random stuff, and I'm actually grateful for it now, because I have pictures of P wearing some of my baby outfits.

  • When we PTd DS1, he took 6 days to PT overnight too. We did not intend to even try, but he was getting really mad when we put a diaper on him and he was dry overnight so...every kid is different, there's no way to know until you start.

We also stopped using the cloth diapers as soon as we committed to potty training (we did it sporadically, then did the three day potty training in July), and used pull-ups, saying they were big boy pants. I don't think he would have potty trained otherwise as he was so used to going in his diaper.

Diagnosed with Anti little c antibodies. DS1 7.11.11 - Anaemia and Jaundice. 10 days in the NICU, 1 exchange transfusion and 4 blood transfusions. DS2 29.8.13 - Anaemia 7 days in the NICU and 1 exchange transfusion. Both are now happy and healthy.

That's encouraging! So you used the pull ups at night? I was kind of considering that as an option, but she still pees so much at night.

Yeah, we basically woke up one morning and said, no more diapers your a big boy, you only wear big boy pants. We kept him naked at home, and in pull-ups when we went out or nap/bedtime. He got a smarties for peeing and pooping and dry pants. It took a day to be dry when naked and two weeks with clothes on. But he was dry during nap and at night very quickly.

FTR his overnight diaper was always soaking, but I think he just peed when he got up, which now he obv does on the potty.
