Stop bringing your damn kids to fancy restaurants and late night movies. There are times and places for a child and a 7 o'clock $80 dinner is not one of them. (And weddings too as far as I'm concerned but whatever.)
I wish fine dining was only $80 here :-( you're looking at a cool $200+ if you want all courses and a bottle of wine

Yes! And if I may piggyback on your comment: When eating out, how about interacting with your children and teaching them how to behave in a restaurant rather than plugging them into the latest electronic device!!

I went to a 9:30pm showing of a Harry Potter movie, and this elderly couple in line with us brought their two grand kids, both under the age of 4. They asked us what the movie was about after they had purchased tickets! Of course the younger one started screaming two minutes in and they ended up leaving. What were they thinking???
I never would have started this thread if I knew there was going to be a poutine beat down - that's blasphemy! I wouldn't have survived my pregnancies without poutine!! No white gravy on it though - that's just wrong.

The only time I find kids at fancy restaurants acceptable is if it's a holiday/family celebration. We'll be bringing LO to a fancy restaurant for my mom's birthday (also Christmas Eve) but, along with what @elyse4281 said, you can be damned sure I will be teaching that child to behave, and if inappropriate behavior occurs, I will happily walk my child out of the restaurant to make sure an understanding is reached.

Eh you can do both. The other day we waited over 30 minutes for our food at a family chain restaurant I was pulling my hair out as an adult. You can bet your ass I let my kids play on electronic devices. My UO I would rather see kind on electronic devises than being obnoxious and interrupting my meal.

I don't think it's anybody's business if my kid is using an iPad at the table. Butt out. I interact with me kid like 23 hours a day and if I want some peace and quiet at a restaurant to talk to my husband for once it's nunya business.
Mama to a little girl born July 2011 and a little boy born April 2014!

I'm dying. )
Your dying because my 5 and 8 year old can play with my phone . Pretty sure I never claimed otherwise. Not talking my 5 month old yet.

I don't care if you plug your kid in, so long as they aren't running around my restaurant. Teaching your kid to have table manners, interacting with him, or bringing things he will like that will keep him quiet and entertained.. All of those things are acceptable in my book. Pretending you aren't responsible for your kid's entertainment or behavior while the rest of the joint puts up with it is what's unacceptable. If you want to have an adult conversation and meal, that's totally understandable, but get a sitter.
I can't agree on the pumpkin uo.. Pumpkin spice for lyfe!
And one more note on the kids out in a restaurant or other public place; unless it's a super special occasion, making your kid stay out way after his or her bedtime is a total dick move. I definitely judge moms choosing to stay out and have another cocktail or cup of coffee with their friends after 9pm while their tired kid is melting down.
I love all things Pumpkin- coffee, beer, pumpkin bread....if it's pumpkin flavored, I will buy it!!
When I was in college, I worked at a movie theater. I would constantly see people bringing their kids to midnight movies--- babies, toddlers, etc..I just don't understand how anyone could justify this!

I despise summer. My skin just burns, after a certain point sunscreen loses its battle. I dont love sitting in 115 degrees. Bring on the cheap/non existent electric bill, sweaters, scarves and pants.
Stop putting words in my mouth. I never said, "my kid won't do that" and I get that it was probably implied. If you choose to use an electronic device with your kids, that's fine. I've been to restaurants and observed device use for the entirety of the ordering/waiting/meal/paying. It just makes me sad.
My kid gets jumperoo and tv time while I do dishes and make dinner. FTW.
I hate most of "today's" music.
I think that if your kids are too rambunctious to be well behaved in a restaurant then don't bring them. For me, it would be too stressful, but tthat's just my opinion.
I hate going to concerts. I like music but the whole concert experience just sucks. People are pushy. They never play what you want to hear. Tickets are expensive. If it is an outdoor festival it is either miserable and hot or miserable and rainy.

Many years ago my family went to a 10 pm showing of the last Lord of The Rings movie. We paid a babysitter to watch the nieces. There was some couple there with a toddler that was gabbering or crying the entire movie and running up and down the aisle behind us hitting everyones seat. After shushing them for the millionth time the father decided to take responsibility put popcorn down the back of my brother in laws shirt. Classy.
What kind of parents take a toddler to a 10 pm movie that is way too scary for small children?
Movies don't scare me and I'm not freaked about germs or anything, but generally I still prefer to wait to see something at home. If only because movies are so stupid expensive.
Mama to a little girl born July 2011 and a little boy born April 2014!
I took dried pumpkin (like homemade pumpkin fruit roll up) to the filming of Angels in the Outfield. I won a watch because the pumpkin was awesome than any other of the extras' foods. Yeah. That happened. I was like 6.
You were an extra in Angels In the Outfield??? I love that movie! Jealous.
Also why does it make you sad that a kid is using a device the entire time they're in a restaurant? You realize that tells you zip about their life and their relationship with their parents? This is such a stupid thing to be judgmental and holier than thou about.
