I have mine next week. I see 2 and 3 hrs on some. Of these posts and I almost cringe...... I know this is necessary, but I don't want to wait that long. Lmao
A big thumbs up to those who passed on their first shot. Unfortunately I failed my 1 hr with a 143. OB's office likes it below 130, but apparently 135 is bad end of normal. Sniffle. I have my three hour tomorrow morning. Really hoping that goes well since I was on the low end of failing. On the bright side the lab is literally around the corner from my house and I can go home in between blood draws as long as I don't pass out.
Like some of you, I know it's hard not to beat yourself up over failing. I have "bad mommy" brain over it too, but agree that it would be better to know than to not know.
Had mine last Tuesday morning. I never received a call from my OBs office but I did get an email from the lab with my results. It showed I passed the 1 hour with a 131. BUT then it went on to show my CBC results. And the white blood count was slightly elevated at 13.4 (these ranges show high for a normal person). The range was within normal for the third trimester chart I found. I did the worst thing possible and googled it. Oh my goodness - big mistake it says so many things. I am honestly assuming is normal or my Doctor would have called me prior to me getting the results directly from the lab. Anyone else experience slightly elevated levels but were seen as normal during pregnancy? I'm going to put a call into my OB in the am to check as well. I have been extremely stressed lately which I read as a contributor. My mother in law works in the ER and the lab techs told her stress and a surgeon told her all normal. So that is somewhat reassuring. Sorry so long. Didn't want to create another post for this tho. ETA: spelling.
Failed my 1 hour on Friday, by 3 points. Ugh. Going in tomorrow AM first thing for the 3 hour- I'm super stressed about it (no water! That drink! Horrible veins that they constantly have to dig around for!) so I just want to get it over with. I'm actually surprised at how upset I am about failing the one hour...
My 1-hour screening is this Wednesday. We took a weekend trip and of course at WAY TOO MUCH, including way too much pasta and dessert. I'll be eating very clean for the next few days in prep for this test!
Half hour into my first go off the three hour test, had the fruit pinch drink this time... not bad I guess... can not WAIT for this to be over and I can eat. In the mean time she doesn't even want me to drink water, cause it can upset my stomach and make me throw up.
@bowlwoman - assessed my diet and I am seriously lacking in protein and have been making up for it in carbs (what a shocker!). They told me I don't HAVE to follow the diet - but I am going to try to do the best I can as 1 of my numbers was still high...
Quick question - do you strictly count carbs (15grams is 15 grams regardless of where it comes from) or do you aim for foods with a low glycemic index?
I'm actually not as concerned by the smaller amount of carbs to eat as I am with increasing my protein. I'm blanking on good vegetarian sources beyond cottage cheese, greek yogurt, peanut butter and eggs...
@Anna930 In general I try to eat more mid-level glycemic for the bulk of my carbs, and add a small amount if higher glycemic at the end if my meal. All three times, though, I do tend to rely more on how my numbers react when testing my blood sugars than strictly adhering to one or another protocol, though.
Rice and corn tend to spike my numbers, so I'm pretty judicious of only eating a smaller serving if those. Potatoes are fine, though, so they've been making up the bulk of my starchy foods along with fruits. Since I'm GD I can't so a lot of typical whole grain breads, so most of my baked goods have to be highly refined unless I make them myself (like homemade corn tortillas).
I think your bigger struggle is going to be enough protein as well. Since you have to count grains and beans you could do some vegetarian tacos, but you could only eat one or two.
@Anna930 It's actually been good discussing diets with all you fresh off the GD test, because I've gotten a bit lax the past month about it because I've already been doing it since May. So, a good refresher for me, and now more important because this is when the serious hormones start kicking in and making the diet even more crucial.
I definitely think a nutritionist will be able to help you out, so I'm glad you're getting the referral. I don't eat soy really at all, because soy can be processed as a neuro transmitter, and it causes seizures in my mom. We're pretty soy free, except for occasionally using tamari when I get Chinese food (can't do regular soy sauce because of the gluten). That's about it, though, and sometimes I even sub out coconut aminos for the tamari too if I want to be more paleo about it.
I had mine this morning. The orange drink wasn't as gross as I was afraid it would be, I poured it over ice and drank it with a straw which I think helped. It did make me feel all flushed after a while but at least I didn't pass out! Fingers crossed I passed.
ETA: I passed! And yay for same-day results! Still low on iron though, which isn't surprising because I am still always tired. Have a doctor appt tomorrow to ask what more I can do to increase iron. (I've been taking an additional iron supplement for the last 2 months already.)
I took mine this morning. Late, but well... The nurse had huge eyes when I gulped it down as quick as I could. lol Umm, this is baby #6, I know what works best for me.
Awesome news is, unlike every other time, I am not feeling like poop! YES! This baby is being so nice to me! Next to no morning sickenss. No vertigo. I have gained very little but am still eating what I wish, and now I am not feeling ill after that yucky drink 6 hours ago! :-D
Praying I didn't just jinx myself into needing the 3 hour or having GD. lol
This thread has really helped keep down my anxiety about this test! I had my 1 hour last week and failed with a 148. Just finished my 3 hour.... It wasn't as bad as I was anticipating! I usually pass out when I can't eat for a cpl hours... But no passing out and no throwing up! Hoping I passed, but if I have gd then I have it!
I live in Germany and they do a 2 hour test. I passed the glucose drink tasted more like cranberry juice opposed to the overly sweet drink I had in the States with my daughter. By the second hour I wasn't feeling well and I was glad I had a non stress test so I could lay down. Oh and being stuck 3 times in the same vein sucked. In the States with my daughter (2012) they did the finger prick. I asked the nurse and she said they didn't use capillary blood. Either way I'm glad I passed.
How likely is someone to fail their first 1hr? I see a lot of this on this thread. Ftm just curious over here.
I had to be tested early (11 weeks) due to family history, age, weight, etc., and at that time, I failed the 1 hour and passed the 3 hour. The lab tech told me that she estimated 90% of patients failed the 1 hour. That seems like a really high estimate to me, but at least goes to show that it's really common!
Unfortunately, my early testing was not for GD, but for the possibility of preexisting Type II, so I have to do the 1 hour again this Friday. A nurse suggested that, rather than eating cereal and fruit for breakfast, I stick with an omelet or other higher protein food this time. Good luck to all of you!
Had my glucose 1hr test this morning. I don't think the orange sugary drink was too bad, although it did make my stomach gurgle a lot. Should hear back with results by tomorrow. Fingers crossed!
I also had my 1 hour test this morning, hoping to hear back tomorrow. The drink wasn't as bad as I was anticipating, but I did get a little headache shortly after.

I had mine on Thursday and I was supposed to hear today if I failed, I was told no news is good news so I'm assuming I passed. Woohoo! That lemon lime crap gave me a splitting headache all day so I was hoping that wasn't an indication of me failing.
I had mine at 9 am on Monday, the orange flavor wasn't bad at all, still waiting on results. I did find out my iron is low, blood pressure was 98/60 and I passed out again while waiting on the doctor, they don't seem to worried about any of it.
Sitting here waiting to have my blood drawn for it. They told me not to fast, so I ate a piece of pb toast about an hour and 45 mins ago. The nurse just said (in a not so hopeful tone) well I hope you pass... That's just great! Here's a hoping I didnt screw it all up!
I failed the 1 hr test at 155 and discovered my iron is low. I had my 3 hr test yesterday (I fasted for this one unlike the first one). Waiting for results...PRAYING I pass!
Took mine yesterday and had the fruit drink, not bad at all... Haven't gotten a call yet so I assume I passed (said they wont call unless there is an issue)

I opted for the finger pricking after every meal for a week. I still have 2 days to do but based on my numbers and the range my MW wanted me in I passed perfectly! which is great news since I was sure I was going to fail based on how I had been eating all first tri.

D14 December Siggy- Free For all:
I had the lemon-lime this time around, it wasn't bad. Felt REALLY tired after the test which I don't remember last time.

It's crazy how different the 1 hour and 3 hour results can be!
