Thank
you for asking! It was pretty uneventful actually. She asked me about 100
questions and based on my answers gave M a score of 12-15 months. She turns 16
months on the 23rd so she is a little behind but nothing to be concerned about
at this point. I am very surprised because a lot of the questions she asked I
said 'no, she isn't doing that' to. She also mentioned that a lot of peds have
been referring patients to them lately and they can't even officially enroll
anyone until 24 months - kind of eluding to the fact that it was a waste of
time to evaluate them before that because they can catch back up so quickly. So all in all I feel good knowing she's only
a little behind and I will keep working with her and hope that she picks things
up in her own time.
One tip she did give was to try baby sign language. Her point was that you can't make them talk but you can move their little hands in a sign. She said it's harder to sign than it is to talk so teach them hand signals and then they will eventually use words instead because it's easier. I don't think we will do this because she is good at communicating what she wants (it's not a matter of understanding her). But it might help others?
Well I guess it's a lot different than our program. I'm glad she's not far behind. I will definitely share any tips I get once we start therapy.
I wanted to do baby sign starting at about 6 months but I always kept forgetting to sign and I was just a big slacker about it. Now I wish I had stuck with it because maybe he would be using signs by now. DS doesn't point or give any indication of what he wants so I would love it if he could sign to us. We are pretty good at guessing his needs but I would just be relieved to see he is communicating in some way. I just started with sign again so we'll see how it goes.
