  • My mom and her BFF get in today for a 5-day visit!  And the weather is supposed to beautiful and Edouard has decided to completely give us a pass, so rain forecast only for Wednesday and Friday.  Saturday is going to be super busy: baby care class at 9:30, skipping the last 45 minutes or so to get to the aquarium for open water snorkel, possible house warming party that night all back to back.   We might take a picture for a facebook announcement this weekend (yeah, we're totally not facebook official or mentioned at all), if we do, I will AW it here.

There's only one ship in right now!  The season is slowing down!

  • Ugh, woke up at six am and couldn't get back to sleep. Laying in bed on my phone because I don't feel like getting up yet...

My husband felt the baby move last night! For some reason he couldn't really feel the kicks that seem obvious to me, but he could feel her rolling over.

QOTD: When I was a kid I wanted two, as a young adult my husband and I wanted none. We discussed it and changed our minds, but we might be one and done.

Just couldn't get comfortable last night. Before getting pregnant, my OB GYN told me that I can expect significantly more hip pain while pregnant than the average lady because of the 2 hips surgeries I've had. The past few days, everything is snapping, popping, and some tendons are really sore (different for each hip). I knew it going in, but damn, I wish I could take some real pain meds. Tylenol does not do anything for musculo/skeletal pain. Pregnancy back pain on top of hip pain doesn't help either.

QOTD: I've always envisioned 2 children, but DH is an only child and may be a one-and-done kind of guy. He's open to the idea of 2, but by no means is it set in his mind.

  • @maple403 I'm in the same boat! I had hip surgery in 2009 and my hip is very finicky and carrying twins just makes it even more uncomfortable. It's mostly lying down in bed and prolonged sitting then walking that aggravates it. Yeah Tylenol is no bueno and it's just a deal with it type of pain over here.

I am going to a career fair this afternoon, so broke out my suit pants. Yeah, they stayed buttoned for all of 1 hr. They were always more tight than my other slacks, and they sit higher on my hips. So, it is just not happening.

And my H is trying to bring me down about our Jamaica trip - by telling me the highs are only in the low 80s (that it will be hotter here in ATL than there) and that the forecast has a lot of rain. Blah. so much for me laying out on the beach a lot. I guess that is what we get scheduling a trip for the end of sept. though

  • Hey packer fans! Did you see the game last night?!? A huge fight, jordy nelson just being his amazing self, and a jets touchdown that didnt count!!!

This is going to be a busy week. My grandpa died on Saturday and my mom is a wreck. His wife didnt like his kids and did everything she could to keep us away from him and no one told his kids that he was dying. He was all by himself. His wife wasn't even with him. The whole thing is really fucked up. :((

QOTD: both of my sisters and a cousin have twins so I was kind of scared to have babies because I didnt want twins!! Now that I only have one in there, we might try for one more in a few years.

Before I had a child I didn't want any children. My reason being I didn't want to pass on any mental health issues that seem to run in my family. But at 15 i ended up pregnant so that didn't happen.

Today is one of those days where I'm going to gag and dry heave all damn day long. So far I have all morning over everything and nothing at all.

First thing this morning at 4:30 I got into a fight with DH.
I woke up because he came into the room to turn the alarm off so I wouldn't wake up. Apparently he stayed up all night long playing Destiny with his online friends. I am beyond pissed. He has work today and we have a bunch of stuff to do after work today and he knew that. Its not like he has an easy laid back job he works with electricity so all day today I'm going to be worried that hes so tired hes gets distracted and shocks himself.

Has anyone seen the abc family line up for the 13 days of halloween? it really sucks. :( I remember when it was 31 days and it was completely badass.

Also yay we find out the sex today! That is if Lo spreads them.

  • @peaceofkia - Yep, know what you mean about that "deal with it" level of pain. I'm not truly past the "reasonable" amount of pain stage, I am just bitching a lot :) It was so much easier prepregnancy when I could just pop a couple ibuprofen! Or, better yet, get a steroid shot if my tendonitis flared up! Although, the steroid shots to the adductor tendon involved getting a shot in the vag. Not cool, but after 2 surgeries with the same surgeon, I could care less what he sees. The pain relief was worth it.

Anyway, I'm glad I'm not alone! I can't imagine how much more strain 2 babies would be! Do you still get any exercise in? I basically do what I can when the tendons are not acting up, and then rest when the tendons do act up. So I'll rest the next few days.

Ok question about "telling work" for you guys. I work in a lab and only have one direct.......supervisor-ish on site (I use this term very loosely, she designs experiments and I do some work for her but she doesn't ok vacation time or anything), everyone else works in our "mother lab" 500 miles away. I was hoping to see the big boss when she was in town last Thursday to tell her in person but it just didn't happen. I don't want to tell my supervisor too much before I can tell the big boss but is it weird to request a phone call and just tell the boss over the phone?

I'm not planning on coming back to work after I leave because we'll be moving between 8-12 weeks after the birth (that time frame they are aware of, just not the maternity leave preceding it). Should I have this all worked out for the talk, or just say I'm pregnant, excited, and leave it vague for now?

tl;dr: Telling the boss over the phone ok? Do I need to tell her my quitting day at the same time?

  • @willvilljill congrats on that major victory for her to quit! I've heard a bunch of times my mil is gonna quit and her 60th birthday is this week so that's her latest "im gonna quit" milestone...we'll see. It doesn't bother me though cause she is really good about not smoking around my DS and washing up and no third hand smoke...

  • I woke up at 4 am to go to the bathroom and my back was KILLING me!  Good thing I had brought my pregnancy wedge pillow into the bedroom a few weeks ago in anticipation of needing it soon, because I was really hurting.  Got all comfy and settled back in bed and... couldn't fall back to sleep.  Laid there for 2 hours until my alarm went off.  I hate mornings like that.  It's gonna be a long day.

@PeaceofKia - my mom had me and then 2 years later got pregnant with my twin brothers.  Several years ago, she talked to me about that exact fear - that she was so wrapped up in me that she wouldn't have enough love for my brothers.  I really didn't fully understand it until I got pregnant this time.  In the back of my mind, that fear is there too.  I love the quote/status a PP posted and I'm sure it will be true, but I think it's a totally normal thing to worry about.

Can't wait to see the updates from all the scans today!!!

QOTD:  I always wanted 2 or 4.  Never an odd number.  DH didn't want any until we started dating.  Then he said 3 (umm, quite a leap there!) but I was insistent on an even number.  4 would not be financially feasible for us with me working part time (we were committed to me staying home at least part time until our kids are in school) so we decided on 2.

The rainbows and unicorns are gone. The cool front blew over so now its back to steamy, warm 90 degree weather here in Texas. All that remains of it is a sick kid and sick husband whose allergies got stirred up. DD woke up wheezing something terrible, so we had to pin her down for a breathing treatment before taking her to school. I really wanted to stay home with her, but I've got a million things to do today at work. DH leaves for a work trip to chicago tonight, so I am on my own. Also, every time I try to sleep my arms falls asleep.

  • @Trin42 - Good luck with your appointment. Fingers crossed it all goes OK!

@Irishcurls - I think a phone call request sounds completely appropriate. Once you've told the big boss, you'll be more comfortable telling the people around you. Kudos to you for being able to keep it a secret so long, especially in a lab environment! I know that depending on what you are working on, you may have had to reveal much earlier for safety reasons. I used to work in a lab :)

I found a sampler pack of Land'O'Lakes hot chocolate yesterday. The oatmeal cookie one is awesome and a great way to start the day when your kid is being a pain.

QotD: Up to 4. I want to keep trying until I get a girl (maybe this one is). DH keeps saying this the last to be annoying because he knows I want at least 3. Everyone in my family insists that I have 2 or 4 because I have am aunt everyone dislikes who only had 3. I'm starting to realize how childish my family can be.

Sometimes I'm terrified at the thought of having to love two more precious girls when I feel like all of my love goes this one... I love my DD so much!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I didn't even answer my own qotd... 2 or 3. But now it's looking like 4 because DH wants to try his boy in a few years.

I had a friend who was EXTREMELY worried about how she would love her second child as much as she loves her first.  This was her FB post a few days after her second, Skylar, was born:
[It's amazing how much your heart grows with adding another baby. I still have all the love and appreciation for Makayla, and it doubled with Skylar. It's a whole different love, and it's just as big. I guess it's something only a parent with more than one baby can understand! I can't imagine my life being any better right now.]

This describes it perfectly! I felt the exact same way when I was pregnant with my 2nd daughter. I didn't know how I could love two when I felt such a strong love for my first daughter. But the day my 2nd daughter was born, all that went away, your heart doubles in size and it's amazing! You will feel that strong love for all your babies. I will admit, even knowing that, I still kinda have that fear this time too. Will I be able to love this baby boy and have the same strong bond with him as I have with my baby girls? But I already know, when he arrives I will get to feel my heart grow again! And it will be amazing!

  • Hey Hey ladies!!

Hope everyone had a pretty decent weekend. Quite busy for the Taz household. I seriously am exhausted despite getting a fairly decent amount of sleep last night.

Did I miss anything good over the weekend? Any posts worth stalking?

QOTD: As a child I said I wanted 7, because I liked having lots of aunts and uncles, and wanted my kids to have lots of aunt and uncles as well. As an adult, I wasnt really sure about children of my own. I had my godchildren whenever I needed a kid fix. After I got married and we found out we couldnt have any, thats when I really wanted children. 1 for sure, maybe 2.

  • So my due date got bumped back to Feb 14th. I am now 18w 2d. I was originally due 2/14/15 by LMP and had an u/s at 10+w. The NP said my new date would be 2/22. I transferred care to a new OB and he did an u/s Friday. He said I was measuring around 18 weeks (not almost 17). He did an in office u/s and said baby was measuring 18 weeks. So as of now, we are going by measurements and LMP which puts me back to 2/14/15. He said everything looked good and HB of 150 bpm (thank God) and gave me a referral for my A/S.  Baby had its legs crossed so we have no idea what we are having.

QOTD. I have always wanted 3 (my dream is 2Bs 1G), DH is weird, he said we can't have an odd number of children. It either needs to be 2 or 4. He's coming around to the idea of 3

  • @Irishcurls I am on the do it over the phone boat.  I would also say, don't be vague about leaving after ML.  You may need to train your replacement as @willjillvill said.  Also, it just gives them time to find a replacement even if you don't need to train them.

My boss is an amazing baker and realized mid last week she missed my birthday.  So she's made and brought in red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing.  I am so f'in excited about them!  Thank GOD my glucose test was good last week!  lol

  • I went to a convention for work the end of last week and this weekend.  We got home late Saturday and I was pretty useless yesterday.

@irishcurls - I think because of your work location, telling the big boss over the phone is okay.  It would be different if you saw him on a regular basis or he'd be back next week.  I also think you don't have to tell him yet that you aren't coming back after the LO is born just yet.  Unless you have a contract that says differently, you only really have to tell him two weeks in advance.  Since you already know, though, I would probably give them about a month's notice that you aren't coming back.  What happens if, for unforeseen reasons, plans change and you don't want to leave?  If you tell them now, they may have already replaced you and tell you that you they're letting you go.  Not that it's likely that will happen, but sometimes you never know.  If you give them a month or at max two months notice, that should be more than enough.

QOTD: I knew that I wanted 4 children since I was in jr high.  My job pretty early on was watching other people's kids and being a nanny.  I was good with kids.  Now though, we're lucky to have this one and we'll probably try again, but unless we have twins the next IVF I won't be getting my 4.
