Ok this is going to be seriously dumb post but I am really confused on how to pick up stuff for LO for winter. I dress very badly for winter but that's because I am always hot! So here are my questions.
- his size has been changing like crazy. Stuff I thought he'd fit in later fits now and some stuff I got earlier somehow still fits. He is just weirdly tall but kinda lean. How do I anticipate what goes long term without it being too lose or running out in a month. I assume for winter if it's too lose it won't keep him warm? What kind stuff is worth investing in?
- are you doing layers like one long sleeve onesie and perhaps a T and a light jacket or would you rather suggest one nice fat jacket for outside and won't matter what's on the inside?
- what kind of hats and mittens?
I am in NY, we don't have a car so LO will be out and about in the streets a lot.
PS: if you share pics of what you have bought or anticipate buying that will help a ton!
Re: How do I prepare for winter?
His snowsuit is for playing outside, etc.
WALKS: We have this from LLBean - we just put it over whatever warm clothes he's wearing.
SNOW PLAY: We also have snow pants, puffy snow jacket, waterproof mittens, super warm hat, and Karmik boots.
CARSEAT: We have a thin fleece jacket and a blanket with knit hat and fleece mittens.
EVERYDAY WEAR: long sleeve onesie and sweats with socks. If he's wearing a shirt and pants, a shortsleeve onesie goes underneath to prevent bare tummy. We usually have a hoodie with us at all times if needed.
Hope this helps
It is great that the mittens and feet fold open or closed. Great option.
@carissalynp - mittens for babies are really just a covering (don't bother with thumb openings at this age). The ones with long cuffs are helpful. Mitten goes on then coat keeps it on.
This is something I didn't really even think about too much. We ARE going to MN next week, so I have lots of long sleeve/pant sets, socks, shoes to keep socks on, and a fleece jacket for the car. I also have a hat for her, and hat/mitten set (although I'm not sure we'll use those-she's a thumb sucker, so having her hands in mittens might make her super mad). Beyond that, I plan on putting her in the carrier and wearing my 'maternity' jacket from last year over us both, and using regular blankets in the stroller (although we'll only have the umbrella stroller due to the size of my 'regular' stroller).
I do have a pair of 'snowpants' although I doubt we will need them.
If we need anything else, we'll likely end up buying it while we are up there.

I've been on the lookout for winter coats, but I hadn't even really thought about mittens yet (duh). Thank you for posting about this topic!
