Push Gifts

My husband asked me this morning if I expected one. I just stared and waited. Evidently someone told him last night that she was pissed at her husband for not being on time to bring her flowers at her baby shower when everyone was there THEN *gasp* he didn't buy her a push gift. While I don't mind if he wants to buy me something shiney or a six pack of beer but I am not expecting it, nor will I be upset if he doesn't get one. What are your thoughts?

  • I don't expect/need/or want one at all, but DH has mentioned getting me a few charms for my pandora bracelet in honor of the baby.

  • Since it will be hard to fit all three kids in the backseat of our cars, my push present will be a bigger vehicle (assuming DH can get a job between now and then).

Seriously, getting rewarded for having a baby? This is not 18th century England where we get a bonus to our allowance for providing the heir...

  • I do always get my new mom friends a gift card for a pedicure or to a nice restaurant for date night. The baby is showered with so much and it's nice to surprise mom with something for her!!
  • Ok I also need to see these boots.

With DS, DH bought me an engagement ring and gave it to me in the hospital, but I don't think that can really be considered a push present. I won't object if he gets me one this time but I certainly won't be expecting it. My push present is the epidural.

  • We just bought a new car, does that count? Even though I'm making the payments on it out of my seperate account this somehow got dubbed "my anniversary present" as well.
  • We don't do normal gifts (bday, anniversary, Christmas) for each other so I am definitely not expecting a push present.

Does having DH go get food after delivery count as a push present? After all that work, I'd rather have Chinese food over something sparkly any day.

  • Ugh I hate this so much!!! If my husband wants to surprise me with a special gift for having out first child, then that is on him. I would rather it come from his heart than a feeling of obligation.

And um hi, it's his child too. I might bring doing the physical work, but he's doing a lot of emotional support for 9 months plus labor. I'm not the only one in this!

Yeah I am going to need to see these $400 boots you bought yourself as a push present.

Hell yes. My first requested present was Whataburger and a vanilla milkshake.

Thick 'N Hearty A1 burger with extra A1. I normally hate Whataburger, but I break my GF diet for those.

  • I don't think my DH has even heard of this so def not expecting it.... He can make my wine/sushi run once the princess is here :)
  • @bowlwoman the mention of A1 just made my heartburn come back. I actually really don't like Whataburger either but for some reason as soon as DS popped out and I was coherent again all I wanted was a damn Whataburger.

Ugh, I am SO sorry about the A1/heartburn. If it's any consolation, your dog's cat poop throw up story made me gag. :)

Haha I'm sorry for making you gag. You really should have come to expect that I will be telling poop stories.

  • I should also add they are Frye boots so if you are into fashion you know they last forever and ever(at least they better!) I seriously fretted for days about buying them but my husband pushed me to do it. Normally, I'm a cheap ass! See, I even feel like I have to justify my purchase here.

These are the boots ladies. But in all fairness, I got them at 30% off because I work for a company that sells them. And yep, I'm calling them my push present/anniversary/birthday gift because that was the ONLY way I could justify them! I've wanted them for years!!! imageimage

I would rather the money be spent on the babe! But my H and I are like this, our money is usually spent on our kids. :o)

    Edit: wording
  • We actually thought about treating ourselves to a nice camera when they go on sale for Black Friday. We can use it when LO comes and throughout the years as she grows up.
  • The epidural is my push present.

Yup that's exactly what I said.

  • For those of you buying cameras I will offer a litte bit of friendly advice. We made a big stink out of getting a nice new camera to get pictures of DS all the time. I think I have used the camera about 8 times in 2 years; all of our pictures taken at home and events and such are on our phones. They are just so much easier because they're almost always on us (mine is a company phone and I'm on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week) and they're more convenient than also carrying a camera. Just my two cents, not that anyone asked for it!

  • Yeah, I had no clue that there was such a thing as a push present before I joined the D14 board (probably because Im a FTM and dont have many friends yet who have kids). I expect that my "push present" will be SO taking care of baby girl on his own for a while so I can rest! And from what I hear from the rest of you ladies about being hungry afterwards, I may also demand food! Lol
  • I don't expect a push present. The annoying part is people have already brought it up and I feel like they're going to ask after baby is here. It's just so ridiculous and I don't want MH feeling bad because he didn't do something so stupid. Gah!

  • @rileymom1 are those Frye boots? I'm drooling!

Btw, I should note that my husband already bought me 4 bottles of really good wine to drink after the baby comes - maybe I'll count that as my "push present" ;)
Oooh...I forgot that when we went wine tasting this summer (I was the DD), my husband bought some wine that he is saving until after the baby is born so we can drink it together. :)

  • My push present will be DH's presence at the birth!
  • I think it's super sweet when the SO (or anyone) gets you something special after the birth. But I made the mistake of Googling this phenomena and some of the stories about women demanding super expensive presents really have a disturbing subtext. Instead of we had a baby that we both wanted and love, it's "I made you a baby so you have to get me a car and diamonds." It's not our duty to have babies, so why is it our husband's duty to reward us for having them?
