Epidural vs natural...

I'm trying to figure out what I would like to do. I never thought I'd consider going natural but I just took a birthing class and it's really made me see things from a prospective I hadn't seen before. Does anyone have any stories or anything they could share regarding either one?? I know it's a very personal decision but I'm just trying to get more real life input in my research.

  • I had an epidural and, personally, I thought it was the greatest thing ever. I know it may not be for everyone but for me, I don't know how I would have gotten through it without it. I was able to relax, take little naps and enjoy the experience. Before I got the epidural every time a contraction came I would tense up and I knew that wasn't going to be good in the long run. Having the epidural made me relax and let my body do what it needed to do. I got the epidural around 10-11 am and DD was born a little after 3 pm. You could always go in with the expectations of going natural and see how things go. Good luck!

  • I heard they give out medals if you skip the pain meds, but check your hospital's policy.

What?!? I didn't get a medal, maybe I should change hospitals for this one. It's not too late right?

Thank you to those who answered my question and directed me to the previously posted birth stories. Not a newbie just don't have the time to troll through websites all day. It's hard to keep up sometimes with everything that has been posted. I guess I could have done a search for it but that thought didn't cross my mind. I figured I'd just post and get a couple people's inputs who may not have contributed before. Appreciate the feedback again from those who actually helped and directed me to the other post as well.

  • Not asking to receive a medal. Just wanted a little input from both sides. Thanks again for those who gave input. I apologize for creating a second thread and clearly annoying some of you in doing so. Won't be making my own post again in the bump so no worries! I learned my lesson :)

    Is that a GBCB record?
I think 20 minutes was a record and it was the 4,000 guess the sex of my baby thread.

  • I plan to go all natural this includes no epi, no induction meds, iv drip. I'm a ftm so my knowledge is limited. Although, I was at my sisters at home all natural births. Her first child she labored for about 18 hours total, from her first contraction to having her precious little girl. She gave birth on all 4s. Afterwards she described it as being completely unbelievable. She said that pain was bad(not unbearable by any means) but the release made up for it. I think she ment right when the baby was completely out. Mind you prior to her birth she educated herself on how to stay calm, meditate, breath, etc. She was in a very good state of mind. With her second she went into labor and had her within 2 hours. She said the second was so easy her body knew exactly what to do and so did she. The midwife hadn't even showed up before my mother and brother in law delivered her second healthy baby girl. I appreciate you posting this thread. Cuddos to you, let the "mean girls" on this site respond immaturely to your post. They obviously have the time to. I hope you get some real responses from women who have gone natural instead of using drugs.
  • I want a medal for eating cake with a numb vag. Do they give those out?

I stopped posting for awhile here and then I thought I'd try again. I didn't think to search you are right which is why I did say thank you for bringing it to my attention. I am taking the time to read through those posts now an I appreciate them and you for pointing this out to me.

I mostly lurk on D14 but just have to say....This I just don't get. You don't have time but are expecting that there are plenty of women sitting around all day waiting to tell their birth stories over and over again? Come on now misses!

  • I'm not asking people to post twice as stated before I didn't realize or think about it being previously posted. This board I have not posted in except in the beginning of the pregnancy. I meant a bad experience on a different board within the bump. It turned me off from posting for awhile. I realize this is a whole different set of ladies which is why I decided to try posting again.

Well thank you for giving us a chance. You might want to note that if you have not posted on D14 since the beginning of your pregnancy you can see why we would think you are a newbie.

Also we had a HUGE influx of newbies asking redundant questions today.

I didn't get a cake with DS, is that grounds for taking my hospital to court? I want cake. I also want all of the drugs. I'm sitting on a donut pillow giving DS a bath, can I have my epidural now? Edit cuz my iPad is not as snarky as my brain

  • OP-if you do go natural, after this convo, I would demand a medal shaped cake. You've inspired me- I'm totally going to ask for one.

    I'm not even being sarcastic.

  • We are an obnoxious bunch but it is all in good humor. Stick around OP. If you can take a little good natured ribbing, we really do actually answer questions and give genuine support as well.

I am sorry to hear about your loss and that you were mistreated on another board. We take losses very seriously here as there are a lot of us who have gone through it as well.

My own experience: My goal with my first child was a drug-free low intervention birth. I ended up with some weird nerve issues during the third tri and had to be induced. I was in some serious pain even before the pitocin contractions started so I asked for an epi. Well, the epi just plain didn't work. My legs were numb but I fully felt every contraction. It was a rough labor and I got all the way to 9.5 cm before I had to have an emergency c-section.

I had studied the HypnoBabies method to prepare myself for the birth and I honestly think it is what got me through. It was extremely helpful to have practiced the skills I needed to calm myself and focus. I would highly recommend that you find some sort of natural pain management book or class so you can practice the skills you need.

  • People on this site are down right rude, and total imbasals.. So she asked a question, why the hell not just answer her instead of being a bunch of bitches?! Or better yet, keep effing scrolling past! This is the worst app I've used for discussion boards, looking at how rude ppl answer questions when asked. I opened this thred because her topic interested me, and it's all ppl saying to do a search first and saying "another newbie".. What is wrong with you bitches?
