Acne

With my last pregnancy...my acne got sooooo bad! Wondering what you ladies [those that suffer with acne] are doing for your face. I was recently prescribed "clindamycin phosphate topical solution" (before pregnancy) ...but I don't think it's going to do that much for me...

Re: Acne

  • From what I have read, pregnant women need to avoid Retin-A because of birth defects, and also should not use salicylic acid. There isn't any definitive information about benzoyl peroxide. It is generally considered to be safe from what I have found, although I would ask your doctor what they would recommend you use for really serious acne.

  • I was on topical acne meds prior to pregnancy, but now that I can no longer be on them I had to find another solution. I recently came across the blog Wellness Mama where she talks about oil cleansing for your face. I ordered my products today. I hope this helps.
  • I have terrible acne on my chin and back right now. I'm washing it with tea tree oil wash, and that seems to be at least keeping the pain and redness down.
  • I had horrible cystic acne with my first pregnancy.  It was devastating.  I eventually went to see a dermatologist and they helped me a lot.  I wish I didn't wait so long.  With my second pregnancy, I went to the derm the minute I started breaking out.

Long story short, I would recommend going to a dermatologist.

  • My doctor said it was fine to use Proactiv with my first pregnancy. My skin really started to behave after the first trimester though.

  • I'm currently using philosophy one step facial cleanser and it's fantastic! My skin hasn't looked better and I'm combining it with a tinted cc cream as a foundation. My skin tends to overproduce oil when it's stripped and this is super gentle

What are you using now? My dermatologist prescribed retin-a for me a few months ago which has really helped, but now I have to go off of it.
