I was wondering if anyone has gotten pregnant with Blocked Tubes? I say this Because I have blocked Tubes and Had Surgery but The Doctors are really trying to push IVF on me. I really want to go for a Second Opinion Just because I'm scared that this is Just for Financial Reasons or I'm concerned about the uncertainty. I'm Just trying to get some type of advice prior to me having to follow through with the IVF Process of Someone conceiving without IVF with Block Tubes. I think I'm just scared.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

  • Hi @lovelyt98‌ 4 years ago we went for fertility help as we were ttc for a year and nothing. I was 30. Found out right away both tubes were blocked and needed to be removed. And ivf would be the only option for us. I did have my tubes removed right away. On one hand I could have waited because I was so upset finding this out. And I was in a bit of denial. But on the other hand, when I would get AF I would be in so much pain. And I would skip my cycles for months at a time. After they removed the tubes. My cycles were normal for the first time I could remember and it didn't put me in bed for the entire first day of my cycle

Long story short. I waited 4 years for my miracle of one of my tubes growing back enough that I would wake up one day and be preg. Well I am 34 now and I am not getting any younger. I know this isn't what you wanted to hear. But I hope it can help you in some way. I am on my first cycle of IVF. When I went back to my RE 4 years later everything went pretty quick because they already know what was wrong. And my tubes were removed so any fluid they might have would be gone because that is bad when your doing an IVF cycle.
I contacted them. July 24. And start stimming Sept 6. Hoping for ER sometime next week and ET a few days after. Keeping my fingers crossed as we are luckily our insurance covers most of this. But they will only cover 1 time.

Good luck with what you decide to so. Sometimes you just need a little time to process everything

    Me: 34 DH:37

Married 2008. TTC since March 2009

March 2010 - HSG, Tubes Removed, only IVF as option

July 2014 - First visit back to RE, ready to dive into IVF.

Aug 2014 - Had final orientation and baseline ultrasound. Have PCOS, RE expecting large qty for ER, but concerned for OHSS

Starting stims on 9/6, hoping for ER week of 9/15

  • @justone13 This is why I asked my question. I'm being told my only option is to undergo IVF. I'm only asking cause this seems like the route I will end up going so dosen't this make the right forum to ask my question in?
  • @brlee25 I see what you are saying, sounds like everything I'm going through. I guess I'm just in denial myself that IVF is my only choice you know....Especially considering the Cost and my insurance is with the Military and Tricare dosen't cover it. But I might just go ahead and stop waiting and consider the IVF especially considering I'm not getting any younger. Thank you so much and Good Luck with your procedure...Praying for you!
  • @lovelyt98‌ yes this is the right group if you are looking for support or info on ivf. But your question was about success stories.... Our group is still trying for their bfp. So if you are looking for success stories the pregnant after infertility PAIF would be a good group of girls to ask. GL!

  • Unfortunately, with blocked tubes, there's no real way for the egg to travel to the uterus. If there is enough room for a sperm to get through and fertilize the egg, then it can get stuck in the tube and cause an ectopic pregnancy. Sometimes if the blockage is small, and/or simple, then surgery can repair it, but then you carry the risks of scar tissue and ectopic pregnancy as well. I know it is an extremely difficult realization and it's not easy to process, so if it helps you, then take some time before deciding to move on to IVF or other options. Keep trying in the meantime if you wish, but honestly, once we decided to move forward with IVF, it was much easier emotionally every time AF showed up, because I didn't hold out hope that a miracle would happen. I hear every day from other people that I'm being negative, and that miracles can happen, but it's easier for me to get through this without being obsessed over every symptom, wondering if it were in fact "our month". I still chart my temps (so I know when to expect AF, and so that I can see how my thyroid is acting) and there are still the occasional pangs of "maybe I should test, just in case", but for me, this is how I deal.

The cost is certainly a big factor. See if there's a clinic near you that offers a shared risk program or clinical trials. I've also heard that there are a few places in the States that offer a military discount? (I'm in Canada, so I can't confirm this, just that I've heard of it.) As for the second opinion, it certainly can't hurt :) Even if/when you move forward with IVF, you'll have a second set of eyes on your issues and more ideas that you can work with.

The good news is, that IVF is often the most successful for women with blocked tubes as their only IF issue, since it's a physiological issue that's easy to bypass :) Good luck with whichever decision you make! None of this is easy, but there are lots of women here to help you along the way!

  • @tptbabe, Oh thank you so much! I needed to hear that and you are absolutely correct....Not that I'm honestly looking for a success story I think I'm more so just trying every route not to go through this IVF process...I guess I'm scared you know...and I do so much research and looking up this and that...I just don't want to come to terms with the fact that my only option of having a child is IVF...I'm stuck in this What if Phase of life...What if dosen't work? What if I don't need it? What if its a waste of time? I had My tubal Surgery Last year and had no success in unblocking my tubes but was praying that they would open just one time you know...I have never concieved so its honestly been a long time coming and I really need to stop putting it off. I see my OB This Friday and I'm going to probably go ahead with the process. Thanks again and Best of Luck to you and Everyone. I greatly appreciate the advice.
  • I was diagnosed with both dubes blocked back in 2012. I denoucned it and said that I was gonna have a baby the good ol' fashioned way, or that I was gonna try everything that I found on the internet. I tried supplements, chinese herbs and special tampons, castor oil packs and belly rubs to massage my tubes "open" and still no luck. We aren't getting pregnant with my tubes, so I figure I am going to get them removed and do what I need to do for IVF and hope that it's in God's plan for us to have a child. Good luck to you and I would totally say get a second opinion.

@brlee225 it sounds like you and I are in very similar boats. I get my tubes removed sometime over the next month, then I will start stimming maybe in November/December? Anywho, it feels good to see someone with a similar story.

ME - 31, DX with dual hydrosalpinx (2012) , confirmed again in 2014, starting IVF 1st Cycle Dec 2014

    Bloodwork done 8/8/2014 LH - 2.8, FSH 6.1

DH - 31, testing scheduled for 8/22/2014, 60-70% motility, no problems found

  • Never say never, but no.... You won't get pregnant with both tubes blocked
  • @swyatt2014 it is always nice to hear from someone that has the same issues.  Good Luck next month.  I had mine removed as soon as I found out  in 2010.  The recovery is not bad at all.  When they went in I begged the RE to keep one if there was a little chance at all but of course when I woke up he told me they both had to go.

Like I said above, I wasn't ready at the time to jump right into IVF.  But I really wish I was.  Wish I didn't keep myself in such denial for so long.  Anyway, I am very excited.  My meds increase tonight and I have to go for monitoring tomorrow morning.  Hoping for good news.  Stimming isn't as bad as I expected either.  I feel a little bloated today, but nothing I cant handle.

    Good Luck with everything

No periods due to 17 years of ballet and distance running after college.  Zero response to 2 months of Clomid, little response to Letrozole.  IUI left with 9 cysts = too many viable eggs due to age.  On to IVF.  Low dose of all meds still produced 37 mature eggs 12.6.11.  Froze due to overstimulation.

  • @lovelyt98 I wanted to share my story with you as I also have Tricare (Military wife) and I was diagnosed right away with blocked tubes. My RE told me immediatley that he recommened I remove the tubes and do IVF. I was in TOTAL denial and googled every "success" story I could find. I even thought about asking him to "open" my tubes. He said he would not perform the surgery as it's only successful 2% of the time b/c the tubes are so tiny and fragile. I decided to do IVF even though they asked me remove my tubes. I didn't believe them. If you have blocked tubes, there's a large chance they are filled with fluid (hydrosaplinx) and that fluid is toxic to the embryos they are placing in your uterus. So, I did a IVF cycle and it failed. THAT was what it took fo r me to be convinced to remove my tubes. I removed my tubes and after some trial and error I was FINALLY successful! I am not 5 months along with a baby girl. I KNOW it's a hard thing to imagine b/c it's like telling yourself that you'll  never be successful trying the old fashion way but once you get over that hurdle, you will excel! I also agree with the previous poster who suggested that the high rate of success is for girls with tubal issues. Good luck you!

  • As PPs have said, you aren't likely to get any natural or IUI success stories from women with BOTH tubes blocked, maybe one. But you will see many from women with two blocked tubes who had success with IVF. My RE even told me, tubal factor ladies are their favorite patients because the success rate after treatment is very high.

I have one blocked tube, but no hydrosalpinx, and still went with IVF. I'm glad I did.
  • I had a tubal ectopic November 2012. It destroyed my left tube, we tried naturaly until August 2013. They found my right tube was blocked so I had laparoscopic surgery to open it. It didn't heal properly and was blocked again. It can be dangerous to try to get pregnant knowing your tubes are blocked. You may becoming pregant but the baby will be stuck in your tube. If they are telling you they are blocked you need to either get them unblocked through surgery or do IFV. If you do get pregant with them blocked you need to go to the doctor ASAP to make sure it is not stuck in your tubes. I was very close to death when when I had my ectopic so please be aware and careful if you continue trying with blocked tubes. It's really not safe.
