Pumping on Amtrak?

Has anyone pumped on a train? I have a 1 1/2 hour train ride on Thursday for a sales meeting and I thought I could maybe pump in the bathroom on the train.

I'm traveling with 3 male coworkers so I'm really not wanting to pump under a cover in my seat. I just don't know if there's room in the bathroom on the train.

Re: Pumping on Amtrak?

  • Okay, good to know. I've never been in an Amtrak bathroom so I didn't know how gross they would be. Will make alternate plans.

Do you HAVE to pump on the train, or were you trying to avoid taking a pumping break while at the meeting?

If it's not busy, I'd find a seat away from your coworkers and pump when you need to. If it is busy, make alternate arrangements. Amtrak bathrooms are bathrooms, and pretty damn gross to boot.

I was trying to avoid taking a pump break during my meeting, but whatever... They can wait for me. After a few slightly embarrassing calls, I found a lactation room at the office.

I guess I shouldn't be embarrassed asking about lactation rooms, but it can be awkward.

  • Agree with PPs bathrooms are gross. I would be comfortable going to different car and manually pumping under a cover. I would not be comfortable electic pumping under a cover even without my coworkers around, but that is just me. Amtrak tries to be very accomodating of disabilities it is worth a call to see if they have a space you could use. Maybe an employee changing room or something?

  • The bathroom in the train was really awful. It would not have worked for pumping at all. I guess I was imagining something else.

I got a key to the lactation room at the office I was visiting and then ended up having to quick pump in the bathroom at the train station before my trip back.

I don't know how you ladies who travel all the time do it! I only go out like once a month.
