Follistim tip--getting more for your money!

I have been calling around to different pharmacies and I spoke with a really nice pharmacist who gave me a tip.

He said that each Follistim cartridge has about 75-80 extra IUs in them. He said this is true for all different sizes, so a 300 IU cartridge still has the same extra 75-80 in it as the 900 IU does. He recommended that if I was trying to save some money that I should buy 3-300 IU cartridges, instead of one 900 because each cartridge would have an extra 75-80 in it. That's equivalent to about 225 extra IUs, a few hundred dollars in savings. I hope this makes sense haha.

One con is that if you may have to do two injections, if the extra 75 doesn't cover your dose for the night.

  • Actually I think you can just take the extra follistim that's in your old pen and insert it in a new cartridge so you can just use the redi pen to inject yourself. Unfortunately you can't do this with Gonal, you have to give yourself an injection with the insulin needle to get the extra in you.
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • Yes, with Follistim I think you can give yourself an injection until the cartridge is completely empty and then it will tell you how much you didn't take, so you can reload with a new cartridge and do the remaining dose. I'm not sure about Gonal f. If you want to ask the pharmacist at Glen Rock Medical Pharmacy. He was very helpful.
