Flexible working hours - what would you do?

After talking to my mentor today, it sounds like I can do whatever I want (within reason) to get 40 hrs a week. If it were you, what would you choose? (I know what I'm leaning toward but curious what others would do!). Keep in mind that I need to work mostly during normal business hours.

  • What's your childcare situation like? Full time daycare to where any early time or days off would be yours?

  • She will be in part time day care if we make this work - she would probably go 4 days a week. Those days MH would take her in later, around 9:30 or 10, because he doesn't have early morning classes, and then I'd pick her up around 6. And then MH won't have classes on my day off so we'd have a family day (with some exceptions when he has something come up or I have some major work thing come up). I think it would be good - she'd get around 8 hrs of daycare 4 days a week and then be at home with us 3 days a week.

The only drawback is that I'm not a morning person so id have to get used to starting work early. But it'd be worth it if I could be off before 6 and then get one full day off.

  • I work 7-4 and love it. My work is super flexible and I can work from home if I need to

  • I'm torn between the 7:30-3:30 days or the Fridays off. I think in the end I would go with the first option. It's almost what I have as a teacher, and it lets me see LO several hours each night, provided I leave on time. If I worked until after 5, I would only have a couple hours with LO before he goes to bed.
