Nope, not a Starbucks fan either. I think it's one of those things that people do just to say they do it, even subconsciously. I'm not saying I've never been or won't meet a friend for coffee there; but I always thought it was a suburban status symbol kind of thing. Now, that's my opinion living on the east coast.
Seriously. So I can't like Starbucks because I love their dark roast? It has to be a status symbol? What kind of status symbol is that? I am too lazy to brew my own coffee. Sorry lala I like you but this is obnoxious. Just because you don't like something no one else can?
This. Getting a coffee from Starbucks is something I do so I can enjoy it to the very last drop, not something I do "so I can say I do it".
This conversation is really hilarious. So I live in a hippy University town but down south so it's a weird eclectic mix (aka half hippy/half conservative). Anyways, if you were going to be cool you definitely would not choose Starbucks. You would choose one of the 50 local coffee shops. I'd even venture to say the uncool kids choose Starbucks. I on the other hand have no care about my status being effected by the type of coffee I drink...so I just go for whatever is most convenient (aka the closest).
I went to grad school in Amherst, MA and Starbucks wasn't doing so well there because there was a great local coffee shop. It was definitely a hippy dippy support local business damn the man community and basically only visitors to town went to SB. Then it got out that the local shop donated to the Republican party and everyone flocked to Starbucks lol!
This probably isn't a UO but I would rather listen to nails on a chalk board than Taylor swifts new song. I'm in the car and it came on and I could not turn it fast enough. %-(
OK, my FFFC is I'm throwing DD a Halloween party because she wants to invite the "popular" kids and she has no friends at her school and I want her to have some. Apparently one of the girls who came to her party last year asked yesterday if she was having another one. She came home all excited with this great idea about having another party this year because people want to come and she could get more friends. How do you say no to that? Even though I know it's nuts. She is inviting everybody pretty much, so it's not like it's a popular vs. unpopular thing but I know this probably is teaching her a horrible lesson...but she just gets so upset when she realizes that she doesn't have school friends. Like any theatre kid, she has tons of friends at her theatre group, but she's only there a couple of times a week...school is every day!
Oh well, I guess my FFFC is that I'm buying friends for DD with pizza, cake pops and a neon blacklight dance party. Sue me.
I would totally do this! You are providing a fun atmosphere for your kid to get to know school mates better! Nothing wrong with that! My kid is a bit of an odd duck. She has her quirks. I feel no guilt in having the best parties all the kids want to attend. I also stress it's fine to have only a great friend or two. But nothing wrong with a great party!
I'm cool with being on the post-its...at least I'm not out drinking a PSL as a status symbol...I embrace the hate.
I used to love the PSL, like was crazy and would look forward to Labor Day Weekend because of it every year. I had one yesterday and it was meh. I am not sure why I have been obsessed for so long. Not to mention the fact a grande was $4.65 - and we don't even have sales tax people!
First off, @katemw, I love that party idea. So cool. Your daughter is precious and I'm sure that age can be so hard! You rock.
I hate Starbucks (Dunkin Donuts 4 Eva). But did you really call it a status symbol? Hmmm…I am going to start carrying around an empty cup. Then maybe they will cast me in Real Housewives of Chicago. Fingers crossed!
I swear, coffee drinkers fall into two camps: Starbucks or DD and neither the twixt shall meet! I have yet to meet someone IRL who likes both unless they drown their coffee in so much sugar that the coffee flavor itself is drowned out entirely!

I like both! I take it either black or with sweet n low.

Me too! I drink all my coffee black...unless it's a foofy drink like a psl.
I have never had a DD drink made at a store, but I bought a bag of coffee at the store to brew at home and it was gross. SBUX for lyfe. However, I live in land of the independent coffee shop snobbery, so I might as well stick an I<3 PSL sticker on my SUV, while I drive through suburbia, getting my child from soccer.

No one has called the it holy grail of coffee. But they're on every corner. Am I supposed to hunt down some random hipster coffee house for a quick cup of Joe instead of running through the eleventy billion Starbucks I'll pass while doing so? I'm seriously LoL at Starbucks being a status symbol

That's funny! You've broken my streak . I like my coffee with no sugar/sweetener and a splash of skim and have not had good coffee from DD ever!

Oh but our DD has a drive thru too and there's a SB in our Target, so yea, convenience determines where I pick up coffee when I want one out. ::shrugs::

This is pretty much where I'm at. I don't buy them anymore because I just eat the whole damn box in about 2 days (<-this is me being generous).
