I feel all of your pain! The last few days have been brutal! Not that he's ever slept great, but mostly just bad at night, naps were ok. Now the kid doesn't want to sleep at all! He was so tired today that I tried putting him down about 6:45 (he's never went down that early) and he's already been up 2 times at its only been 2 hours!!! Once he got so upset he puked! His teeth seem to be really bothering him. Maybe that's it?? Urgg! Who knows!! If I hear my SIL say how how great her kids slept one more time I'm going to lose it!! Like I want my kid to wake up a million times a night!!!
I did it! I finally put DD in her crib in her room for the night! I am having a little anxiety but I know its best for all of us. I feel bad because I thought her 5 hour stretches at night are awful... she used to sleep 8-10 hours straight. I give you ladies a lot of credit for getting so little sleep. I'm anxious/nervous to see how she sleeps in her crib, hopefully she gets a better sleep!
Oh my goodness. Went back to trying the crib out....and I've been up about 6 times since 9:30 she does fine sleeping on her tummy ONLY if she has her paci. So every time she drops it she cries and I'm up again. Idk if I can take this. I just want some sleep and her RnP is sounding really nice right about now...and she just dropped it again
After she woke up three minutes after being put down, and then proceeded to cry for an hour and a half, I gave up. RnP it is for the night. And she's still up again eating 90 minutes later. Without the swaddle, I have no idea how we'll ever sleep again.
@Katzalia , I too gave up and put her in the RnP. Didn't help and had to hold her for a little bit, tried putting her down and nope! Took an hour to finally get her down. Then she woke up an hour later to eat...now I'm pumping hoping she stays asleep long enough for me to get some sleep.
I'm sure this post was meant for our LO's sleep but how about our sleep. DS sleeps through the night like a champ (I know I'm lucky, two good sleepers) but I'm up 3 times a night....I sleep hard for like an hour and half then I'm up, awake, then back to sleep and the cycle starts over again. Anyone else????
Have you tried being swaddled and white noise? Ha jk. But this was me and no joke I put one of DD's sound makers in my room and it really helped. I swear I hear babies crying ringing in my ears all night.

Well.. That went just as terrible as it did last night.. No crib for us, for now anyway. I also may throw in the towel soon and FF so I can get some help through the night.. I figure even if I give her BM bottles I still have to wake to pump.. It seems crazy I'm sure, but I'm drained. Every 2 hours since birth 24 hrs a day, FTW!
@MK1013 Girl, you and baby seriously need longer stretches of sleep. It's hard enough with 2-3 wakeups and I'd be quite unpleasant if I were in your shoes! Can't remember have you had 4 month check up yet? What did Dr say about this? My dr wants us to wait till 6 mos for solids but said a tad of oatmeal at dinner can be ok if we find she is having trouble sleeping (haven't tried that yet). Also the formula, not saying it will work, but might be worth a try. Honestly I'd be losing my mind if I were you.
I don't have a great sleeper per se. But she's a little older (ended up being born mid April) and she seems to be through the 4MW's. Lasted about 3 weeks for us. But the me sleep issue, completely and utterly since pregnancy started to get uncomfortable - I need to figure that shit out, or I might not sleep a full night with my husband ever again!
Congrats on surviving! After the 4MW was over did your LO go back to sleeping like before the 4MW?
Early morning wake up...trying to decide if there's no hope. If I should try an earlier bedtime. Or maybe a later bedtime. Or just continue to wish something was open at 4:30 am as I'm driving around town with a baby in an attempt not to wake the rest of my family.
@ns1 have you tried bringing LO in your bed to finish the night. That always worked with both my kids.

Did anyone's baby go through a "3 month wakeful" and not a 4 month wakeful? DD's a few days shy of 4 months, but from about 3 weeks ago until a few days ago, she was walking up every 3 hours at night. She's back to her 6-8 hour stretches now, but I'm scared it's going to repeat!
ETA: sorry if this is a repeat, I haven't gone through the whole thread yet.

DD went through a week of 3 month wakeful - she just turned 4 months on Friday so I'm hoping we just had ours early....?

@MK1013, honestly, I probably wouldn't get up to pump overnight even if I were having DH give a bottle of breast milk. Mama needs her sleep!
My lactation consultant said I didn't have to pump at the same time the bottle was being given, but that the key to maintaining supply was to pump out as much as the baby takes in by bottle each day.

So I know almost everyone is going through or has gone through this sleep regression. Is your LO acting wide awake still with such little sleep or are you noticing they seem pretty out of it most of the day? I feel like she's tired all day but when I try to get her to sleep she will only sleep 10-30 minutes even on me with an occasional hour nap. Then she looks exhausted all day. I feel bad for her.

@KellyQ116, maybe I should get myself a Rock N Play and transition myself to a crib??? I haven't slept great since DD was born but man I thought it would get better after number 2......I think my longest stretch of sleep in years has been 4 hours. Ugh.
I think DH thinks I lie about how often her and I are up (because he sleeps through allthingschildren) so tonight I'm going to screenshot my home screen with the time included each time she wakes.
In fact, I may just make him a photo album...........

Or just wake his ass up.
If he's like my husband he'll forget he was even up. Watch @MK1013 now tonight she'll go for longer stretches! But I'm sure you wouldn't complain!
Last night I made the mistake of having MH get up and change LO before I fed her in the MOTN. He turned on allthelights in his path including the overhead light above the changing table (which I never use). When I came in, LO was squinting and covering her eyes. Moreover she was wide effing awake. He says he can't see without all the lights on. Funny how I can take care of it with no lights on in her room, just in the hall. An hour and a half later she *finally* went back to sleep.
MH is awesome with LO during the day, but FML if I have more "help" at night we'll never sleep.
I'm sure this post was meant for our LO's sleep but how about our sleep. I also hear the phantom baby cries!
And I also have some insomnia going on. I attribute it to finally having some alone time at 2am so I want to do things... but then baby girl wakes up...
@giggler25 - if I am legitimately on the other side - yes. Last night, first stretch was 5.5 hours - the two nights before that though got eight hour stretches the first stretch.
REALLY?!?!?! Thank the Lord!!!!! I asked some people I work with and they said that their LO never slept that long after the 4MW until they sleep trained the baby. I really don't want to deal with sleep training, and thought that since DD was able to sleep 7-8 hours on her own before the 4MW that maybe she'd be able to do it after the 4MW too. You just gave me some hope!! THANK YOU!!! Now everyone please cross all your fingers and toes that my DD comes out of the 4MW and sleeps longer on her own!!!!!
I am hoping we are almost done with this 4 month wakeful. The last 2 nights she's given me 4 hours then 3 instead of every hour or two and she goes right back down instead of waking 2 or 3 more times. I seem to remember this is how she built up to 5 and 6 hour stretches before. Let's hope so!!
Mine just slept 8 hours straight and I feel like a miracle has occurred!! Of course, that was in the RnP, so we haven't done the transition to crib yet, but still. SLEEP. Not a zombie mama today.
DD turned 4 months last Friday and we haven't hit it yet. She did go through about 5-6 days of waking up at 3am when she was was 3 months, 1 week old - hoping she just hit it early..
M14 January Siggy Challenge: Resolution I have no intention of keeping...SHOPPING LESS!
DD finally slept on her tummy for a good five hours, woke up to eat then down again for another 2.5 hours! Of course I was still up every hour or so cause she would fuss while moving her head and I wanted to make sure she was breathing. Step in the right direction!
So, 8 straight last night and a two hour nap this afternoon? Watch out, kid, I might start thinking you know how to sleep! So grateful for today even if it's a total fluke.
@Katzalia the good news is she slept 9 hours the night of her shots! We also transitioned to the rocking chair instead of the ball so that might have something to do with it too.
@MK1013 , Umm, I kinda caved after she had fifteen minutes of sleep *total* in the first two hours after she fell asleep. First I sneezed - two rooms away. Awake! Then she kept hitting herself in the face with flailing arms. So we regressed: she slept swaddled and in the RnP. No flailing, no waking.
I've decided to wait on the transition to crib until the magic sleep suit that every seems to be raving about arrives. Hopefully that will make the transition less painful?
Edited to add: LO is not quite four months, so although we've had crap sleep for weeks, I'm scared that we haven't even hit the 4MW.
Is anyone planning on sleep training soon? I am thinking soon. I did Ferber with my son at 5 mos and worked well. She wakes up at every sleep cycle (every 1-2 hrs) and needs paci or boob plus rocking or bouncing to get back to sleep. She only actually eats 1-2 x per night so she's at the point she doesn't know what to do or how to get back to sleep. I am dying of exhaustion and feel like I only nap off and on throughout the night. Pedi said start sleep training.
@draculaspointer it can come all the way up until 6 months so you're not out of the clear yet. We haven't had it either and DS will be 5 months on the 30th. Never say never! Lol
4mw can bite me. For real. She isn't necessarily ready for a party when she is up but we can't get her back in her crib. She'll fall asleep when I'm nursing her or when she gets the bottle. I'll hold her for what seems like forever. Then when i lay her down in the crib... BAM awake! So every time she is up (3 times last night) we are up for an hour before we finally get her back to sleep in the crib. I MISS THE SWADDLE!
Diaper changes officially ruin my life. We had a 4 hour stretch (WOO!) and she was going right back to sleep after nursing her..... Until I went to change her diaper. Had I done it before she would've screamed the entire time and woken up the fam.
The struggle is real here my friends............ Bout to buy this girl some real absorbent depends, tighten 'em up real good and call it great for a night. Jk. Maybe.
Once that Baby Dry diaper is on her at bedtime DD doesn't get changed until morning until there is some sort of fluid leaking through her pjs. She would fully wake up every time if I changed her in the MOTN. I stopped doing it about a month ago.
No diaper changes in the MOTN here either, unless there's poop but it hasn't happened yet.

None here either. I stopped a long time ago when she would scream and wake up. I just paste her up and put 12 hour diapers on. Unless she poops.
Nap question: Does anyone have a little one who used to go down for naps and not have to sleep on you but is all the sudden not wanting to be put down? I don't mind since she is letting me rock now but I'm not sure what happened.
I know there are tons of crib questions, but I don't think I've seen this one.
My LO will sleep in the crib at night, but has never slept in it for naps for longer than an hour. He takes his best naps in the swing, but will outgrow it before long and I'm afraid we'll be in trouble for naps! I have light blocking shades on the nursery windows and we keep the rest of the house dark & quiet. We use the same white noise machine day & night. I'm not sure what else to do to lengthen his nap time in the crib, other than practice. Any suggestions?

Yeah, I should have mentioned that @becole42. Likewise, In the swing, he's not as sensitive to noise or light. Although he is starting to become more so. I miss the days when I could vacuum around him in the swing and he wouldn't stir!

Oh, me me me! Her night sleeps has gotten so much better in the crib but naps still suck. We start daycare in a month so hopefully something improves!
Yes this exactly! Night is getting better but naps are worse. She's like a zombie during the day. Maybe that's why she's sleeping better at night lol. Just ready for it all to go away! She will be falling asleep then start screaming because she's fighting it then she finally gets to sleep and she's up minutes later! These fits are driving me crazy too!!
