Special Needs

We had Parents' Night at DD's school last night.

DH and I got a chance to meet DD1's teacher. She seems very organized and into setting up clear expectations from the start.

I'm a little disappointed that there aren't any girls DD knows in her class this year. Between her two friends in the neighborhood and the ten girls from her class last year, I hoped she would know one other girl.

The teacher said she has a motto for their work: Do it nice, or do it twice. As a former English major, the poor grammar made me wince a bit. It reminded me of when we moved to Massachusetts when I was a kid, and my sister started first grade there. One day she came home and said that the teacher had taught them that "calm" and "arm" rhyme. Which they do if you say them with a Boston accent. My mom was horrified, and as much of a rule follower as she is, she made sure that my sister knew that calm and arm do not, in fact, rhyme.
