Soooo I know that some moms have made the smash cake themselves with special ingredients to be less surgary or something. My sis did this for my niece. The frosting also didn't have a lot of sugar.
I'm not saying that I load my LO up on sugar and actually avoid it if it's not necessary. But is this a popular thing? Or are you just buying/making a regular cake for LO bday?
I have learned that every cake I try and make falls apart before I even get to frost it so I will be ordering a cake. Actually when I went to get DD1 her birthday cake I noticed a sign at our grocery store bakery. They advertise that with an order of a 1/4 sheet cake for your baby's first birthday they will give you a free 5 inch round cake for the baby to smash. So I think I am going to go ahead and do that so I don't have to worry about making a cake myself.
Was hoping to do a cake smash photo session but I don't think it's in the budget.
That's what mine is getting, cupcakes from a local bakery. Less preservatives and artificial stuff, same amount of sugar. I'm less worried about the sugar and more worried about chemicals and dyes.
I'll make the smash cake myself. It'll be flavored with fruit (blueberry or raspberry) and a mildly-sweet frosting. I'm ordering cupcakes for the guests.
ETA: pumpkin! How could I forget? Thanks DH! LOs cake will be pumpkin.
