edited August 2014 in TTC After a Loss

This is the weekly check-in for TTCALers who are also dealing with infertility. If you'd like to join us please feel free to intro with your diagnosis and history. We've had a few extra challenges thrown at us, ladies. Come here for snuggles from people who get what you're dealing with.

Fill us in, along with any other updates or vents you need to get out, TTCAL or NonTTCAL related.

If you get a BFP, please PM me and let me know. If we haven’t heard from you in a few weeks please come back in with an update; or are new and want to join please post a brief intro with your DX and current/future treatment plans and then you'll be added to next week’s check in!

Greetings ladies, I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Since this is my first time being a check-in leader for simplicity's sake I just copy/pasted last week's line up.

Re: *~*~IF check-in 8.24.14~*~*

  • AFM: We are gearing up for IUI #4 sometime at the end of this week, it will be our last natural IUI before moving on to injectibles again. (Our first IUI was done with meds/injectibles, we conceived and ultimately lost. Changed RE's and he wanted to try 3 natural IUI's before moving back to meds/injectibles) I am trying to be hopeful but realistic i.e. the eternal struggle of all us IF'ers.

QOTW: I could never give up my car because I work to far from home, and as much as I'd love to give up my phone, it's also necessary for my job, so I would give up the washer/dryer and absolutely loathe the laundry. Ha! :)

  • Hello,

I think I would like to join you. My DX is PCOS with regular cycles. All of my tests have come out normal. The assumption is my egg quality is poor due to my age 38. DH tests perfect. DH and I Non for 9 years before our first and only failure. I have just completed my last allowed femara cycle and I am waiting for the next step. I responded well to medication so I hope that be the next phase. I don't think I can afford IVF.

@Feegan good luck with this cycle. I think hope is why we keep trying.

  • Hi ladies.

Thanks for the check-in @Feegan‌. Of course we have hope, even just a shred. It's how we keep going :) GL

@rubysi‌ welcome, sorry you belong here. What do you think the next step is? Injectables?

AFM: IUI#3 was a bfn. We were using injectables, so there isn't really anywhere else to go with IUIs. We're taking a few months to regroup and to start discussing IVF

    4 Losses (2003, 2008, Apr 2012, & Oct 2012)
All RPL and IF testing with multiple REs = normal

    5 IUIs = BFN

    All AL are welcome

  • @Feegan  Thanks so much for taking over the check-in this week!  I have everything crossed for you that this will be your cycle and you won't have to go back to medicated cycles!!

@rubysi FX for you!!!  Those to look like really good sized follies!!

@Rachaeleigh  I'm sorry about your BFN.  I'm not an expert with IVF but I was in your shoes just a few months ago so if you ever want to talk feel free to pm me!!

AFM:  I think everyone saw from my AW post that I had egg retrieval on Friday and they found 9 eggs and 7 were mature and 7 fertilized!!  I had a lot of fluid in my uterus so we couldn't do a fresh transfer and will be doing a FET sometime over the next few months.

@rubysi‌ Welcome, do you know what your next step will be?
@Rachaeleigh‌ I'm so sorry about the BFN. I hope a little break will be good you. (((Hugs)))
    @Frenchteachermama‌ Congrats! That's great news!

AFM: I am 11dpiui and convinced this cycle didn't work. I have no reason to believe that of course, but IF brain combined with TTCAL brain is not a good combination.

  • I have no idea what the next step is. My RE has been on vacation so this cycle may be natural. On my initial consultation we discussed starting with femara and possible iui based on DR'S labs. His labs were fine so no iui. I would guess injectable since I did respond well to medication. I did have a trigger shot last cycle though I believe it was too late (I had already gotten a positive opk). I am totally freaked out by needles.

@Rachaeleigh I am sorry about the bfn. ((Hugs))

@Frenchteachermama That is awesome you have so many eggs.

@MBJune FX... try to keep positive until your BFP of AF  how's her ugly face. I know it is hard sometimes.

  • Welcome to the check-in @rubysi it sounds like there is a lot of uncertainty right now with your RE's plan of action. Have you asked if you guys can try IUI since you respond well to the meds? It might be worth a shot, especially if IVF is out of the question.

Sorry to hear #3 was a bust for you as well. :( It's so tough, managing the hope and the unknown. Is there a possibility you can do a few more IUIs after a break to try natural cycles again? Does your RE have a max IUI policy before IVF? Sending you bigs hugs girl.

SOOOOO exciting that so many eggs matured and fertilized! I can only imagine it's a little disappointing not to do a fresh cycle, but at least there is still lots of hope for a FET. Rest up, clear up, and let's get that hope training a going! :)

  • Hi all,  I think I will step back in to the IF check in, if that's alright.  My history is in my signature, but we are diagnosed unexplained and 6 failed IUIs, one failed IVF and one failed FET.  Our last FET (with our very last blastocyst) is scheduled for Thursday of this week.  I'm trying to remain calm but in reality, this is it before we simply stop trying with medical intervention.  That's starting to get to me so I thought I'd reach out for some support from my IF peeps as I slowly go crazy this week, and will surely go crazier over the next two.

((hugs)) to all who need them.

Welcome Liz and sorry to hear about all the stress you are under! I don't have personal experience with IVF, but watching the ladies around her go through it I can definitely see it's a whole other world. I will be thinking of you Thursday and hoping all goes well. Do you have any plans to keep busy during the 2ww? Sending so many positive vibes your way!

  • Good morning, lovelies.

AFM: I am currently CD13, stiming for my first IVF. If all goes well, I should have ER on Wednesday. I'm very nervous but cautiously optimistic. My lining and estrogen level are good; just need more follies to grow.

@Feegan - Thank you for handling the check-in this week. I'll cover next week.
@rubysi - Welcome to the board. Best of luck with this cycle.
@Rachaeleigh - I'm so sorry. Big hugs. Moving to IVF was truly the best thing for me. It is very scary knowing I'm at the end of the line, but either way I need closure.
@Frenchteachermama - I know you were nervous about the number of eggs. So happy that you had that many to freeze!
@LizBlue - Welcome back. We are definitely here to support you. Keep us updated on your FET.

QOTW: I'd gladly throw out my cell phone. I miss the old days...

@rubysi- Welcome to the check in!
    @Racheleigh- Sorry about the bfn.
@Frenchteachermama- I saw your post about 9 eggs. I'm glad 7 are fertilized.  Sorry about the fluid in your uterus.
@MBJune- FX that this is your cycle.  I know its hard to be positive, TTCAL and IF is not easy.
@LizBlue- (((Hugs))) I am so sorry you are dealing with this. I hope this is your cycle.  We here for you if you need us.

AFM- I am benched until AF arrives. I am not temping, but I hope AF will show in the middle of September. I miscarried naturally last week, and I guess because it was considered as a CP.  I was only 5 weeks 4 days.

QOTW- I would give up my cell phone.
  • Hi ladies

I think I might have missed last weeks checkin......... Not sure........

We are scheduled for my baseline u/s, SHG and mock transfer on sept 5th. Then I guess the ball starts rolling on this FET. I just got the price for the PGD testing at the new REs......$4600! Holy moly I wish we would have done it at the old REs because they were only charging $2500...... Such is life.

I would give up my blow dryer and that is all the convienences I am willing to part with......... For now

  • @O2girl, I should probably send you a PM...I'm so curious how FET cycles work.  The embryologist said on the phone that we would probably thaw all 7 and keep a close eye on the 2-3 that look the best.  Mine were frozen on day 2.  I still haven't spoken to my RE about how everything works but that seems like a big risk thawing all of them.  You can't re-freeze them right?

For what it's worth my embryos are 5 and 6 day blasts. So I don't know how that plays into the thaw and refreeze plan

  • @O2girl I don't remember asking my RE this but my DH said I did ask why we were freezing all on day 2.  My RE said that they want to have the freshest transfer possible so what my practice does for freeze all cycles is to freeze on day 2 and then when I'm ready for my FET we'll thaw them and hopefully get them to grow to day 5.  I guess in their opinion the embryos do better for an FET if they are in the growing process rather than already mature and then thawed.  I guess I just have to trust that they know what they are doing!  I might post on PAIF and see if anyone else went through sometime similar.

AFM: IUI#3 was a bfn. We were using injectables, so there isn't really anywhere else to go with IUIs. We're taking a few months to regroup and to start discussing IVF

Sorry to hear #3 was a bust for you as well. :( It's so tough, managing the hope and the unknown. Is there a possibility you can do a few more IUIs after a break to try natural cycles again? Does your RE have a max IUI policy before IVF? Sending you bigs hugs girl.

The RE doesn't really have a max policy and he even said that he thinks, in time, we'd be successful with a natural cycle. However, it's been 2 years since our last pregnancy.
I'm really not willing to invest any more time and money into IUI, with such low success rates. I know the success rates are similar to any persons chances any given month, but at this point we've paid half of an IVF cycle in IUIs.
Who knows, I'm waiting to hear back from my RE today

    4 Losses (2003, 2008, Apr 2012, & Oct 2012)
All RPL and IF testing with multiple REs = normal

    5 IUIs = BFN

  • Thanks for the encouragement ladies! Work was crazy yesterday so I'm just replying now. I've decided I'm going to test tomorrow morning. I'm realizing I'm doing ok if this iui is a bust. I just don't want to get my hopes too high and be disappointed yet again.

AFM- I am benched until AF arrives. I am not temping, but I hope AF will show in the middle of September. I miscarried naturally last week, and I guess because it was considered as a CP.  I was only 5 weeks 4 days.

QOTW- I would give up my cell phone.
I'm so sorry about your CP, I hope AF makes a speedy reappearance so you can leave the bench behind.

Thanks for letting me know you've got next week, I wasn't sure who'd be taking it over. We had new recruits this week, so I'll go ahead and add them to this check-in so that when you copy/paste over the list you'll have them all.

As for the stiming and ER, I will be thinking about you tomorrow! Please give us an update if you can.

Hi ladies I think I might have missed last weeks checkin.........
That is quite a price difference, but if I recall correctly, the switch was necessary, right? Hopefully the higher price also lends better care. FX that the mock transfer goes well and you can move forward full steam ahead.
