For those of you who don't work very close to home, is your DCP closer to your house or your work?

Close to home. When you have a day off and LO still goes to school it's nice. Also, I try to reduce the amount of time the boys are in the car as much as possible.

I have strong feels on this because I've had both situations.  My hands down preference is for it to be near home and here's why:

• You're more likely to change jobs than move so it saves you from having to change daycares
  
• If you want a day off or have say, a doctor's appointment, the logistics make more sense because normally your providers are nearer to your home
  
• If your child is sick, they'll be happier and feel better waiting for you where they can lie down than having to be in the car with you 
  
• Bad weather/traffic with a child sucks
  
• If someone (DH, family, etc.) is going to help you in a pinch, it's likely easier for them to deal with something near your home

DH and I work 26 miles from home... in opposite directions.  Daycare is my MIL, but we went with her because she's close to home and we can both do drop off/pick up if needed.

Now that I switched jobs it's equidistant home/work but when I was commuting into Boston it was closer to home for sure. For all the reasons listed above. We would actually park our car at daycare and take the commuter train from the station near it so we could either do pick up or drop off if needed.

Closer to work but I'm in the middle of trying to change that for pretty much all the reasons listed above. It does make me  a little nervous to put him somewhere closer to home because it's actually a different state/train ride away but I need to fix this commute insanity
