Hi ladies,
It looks like I won't be joining you as a mummy in July. After a second round of bleeding (my first was at about 6 weeks) and some severe abdominal cramping, I was diagnosed with an ectopic in my left tube. It has been a rough end to the last 8 weeks.
I was admitted to Emergency on Tuesday night, and after much discussion, and a specialised scan to find its exact location (it wasn't appearing on a regular sonogram scan) and many, many tears, I made the decision to remove the left tube as there was damage that prevented it from been clear, which is why our baby stuck where it did. I had keyhole surgery yesterday (friday) morning, and I'm now recovering from the loss of a tube, and our first baby.
You may be wondering why I didn't go down the option of Methotrexate to terminate the pregnancy - my hcg levels were too high, and there was only a 50% chance that it would work with levels like mine. If it didn't, I'd require emergency surgery. With a damaged tube, if it was not removed there was a chance that this would happen again in the same tube. The decision to remove it was not an easy one, I'm 26 and thought I was healthy.
During this process, we also discovered that I have a bicornuate uterus (slightly heart shaped at the top, instead of flat) which *may* mean that I may deliver prematurely or require a c-section as the baby may not have room to turn so will be breech. It not ideal, but will not stop us trying for the family we dream of.
We simply hit a bump in the road, and we just need to heal, and move forward.
My husband, he's been incredible during this time. The outpouring of love and support from our family and friends has been immense.
I just wanted to let you all know that this experience has made me strong, but it is something that I will always carry with me.
Bree
Re: Ectopic @ 8 weeks, recovering from surgery :(
I just wanted to share that a friend also had an ectopic and had surgery to remove a tube and she got pregnant the very first cycle they started trying afterwards. She is 35 and they have a healthy 4 month old girl!
