Baby Names

How would you handle two first names?

If you like a name that is technically two first names, how would you put it on the birth certificate?  For instance a name like Anna Marie.  Would you do two first names, hyphen (Anna-Marie), or combine into one (Annamarie).  Marie would NOT be the middle name.

I’ve been up linked and downloaded, I’ve been inputted and outsourced, I know the upside of downsizing, I know the downside of upgrading. I’m a high-tech low-life. A cutting edge, state-of-the-art bi-coastal multi-tasker and I can give you a gigabyte in a nanosecond! I’m new wave, but I’m old school and my inner child is outward bound. • I wouldn't smoosh it. I would either go with Anna Marie or Anna-Marie.

My thoughts exactly. Anna Marie Elizabeth Jones, for example looks fine to me.

    This.

My DD has a double first name and we didn't smoosh or hyphenate. We also gave her a middle name and it all looks fine together.

  • Thank you.  I was leaning toward the two separate names, I just wasn't sure that was the best option.  We want the first two names to be used with a completely separate middle name which will be Joanne.  Which is actually two names smooshed (it's a family name, not going to change it).  It may be a bit much but all three of our top girls names are double names.

  • My niece has a double barreled first name and her parents used both name, no hyphen, no smoosh. She also has a different middle name. So far, so good. Interesting thing - all the adults use both her names; kids only use the first part (Anna).
