I was chatting with my neighbor who has a six week old son and she noticed that A had on a cloth diaper. She asked about it and what brand I use b/c she bought a couple BGs to try out (they're still a bit big on him).
Guys, it took all I had to not go on a CD tangent and talk about all.The.diapers. lol I didn't want to come off as the crazy cloth diaper lady!
So I controlled myself and just told her Best Bottoms was awesome for little ones and toddlers too. She said she'd check them out :-)
I feel so accomplished and giddy. I'm so lame! LOL
I found myself in the odd position of defending a mom's decision to extended BF to a close friend and her daughter. The friend wasn't as weirded out as the 20-something daughter, who didn't "get it" even after I explained it's the AAP recommendation now to BF through 2. The weird part for me was that I've never actually met the other mom and I'm honestly not sure if we will bf much past 12 months.
Oh no, Maple! That sucks! I'm pretty sure the phrase "cry over spilled milk" came from spilled breast milk b/c that stuff is like liquid gold. Hope it was more surplus than anything!
I just had to throw out 9 oz of pumped milk!!! It makes me so upset. Last night DH had a work email come up as we pulled up to the house so he stayed in the car to answer the email. Normally I unload the car via the passenger side, but since he was still in the passenger side he said he would unload everything. He forgot the cooler of pumped milk. I didn't realize until this morning that it wasn't in the fridge.
if the cooler was still cold/had ice packs I think it should be okay. Ice-packed milk is okay for 24 hours
@unaveragejane actually the AAP says at least 1 yr and as long as mutually desired by mother and baby
The WHO recommends at least 2 yrs and then as long as mutually desired as well
My goal is a year. I wouldn't mind nursing at night for up to 1 1/2 to 2. It really depends on when he wants to stop.

I don't think this part is weird. I defend other people's choices against ignorant statements even if it's not something I personally have or ever will experience.

It all revolves around you.

@sarenu1 - you need a ticker! I never know how old your kids are
I tried to add one last week. I'm so clueless on how to add one since they updated.... help.
All these lurkers are coming out in one of the newbie intro threads. It's the weirdest thing. It's like we didn't even need to invite them to delurk, they're just doing it on their own. It's kind of refreshing.
I love this board. When I got up this morning, it hit me that I totally didn't word last night's 2am post well and I was afraid I might have be offensive. FTR I don't think extended BF is odd; the circumstances of the situation were odd since this family is usually so open-minded. Anyway... @chickypoo2468 Thank you for the correction. I can't keep the acronyms straight.
And apparently I have PP ADD bc I typed this at 8:00 and didn't post it.

This is also not weird to me. Who, except for newbies and lurkers, really reads an intro on this board?

I just got the bus schedule for M to get to school. He would have to get on the bus and then ride around the county for an hour picking up other kids. On the way home he'd ride around for an hour and then get dropped off. We are a 4 minute drive from his school. Ridiculous.
So M LOVES screens. Any sort of light really, and screens have lots of changing light. She will stare at the screen of DH reading a book on the Kindle app. I groan at this because it means that we'll need to regulate her screen time as she gets older. DH thinks it's great. I came home from doing deliveries today to DH playing a Muppet movie on his phone to her. Seriously?
P went through this phase around the same age. She would stare at the TV or a laptop if it was open. I think all things with sounds, lights, and brightness caught her attention, and the TV was the largest item that could provide that stimulation. Then the holidays rolled around and she loved the lights on the tree. Now, nothing. The TV can be on and she doesn't notice. Thank goodness.
I try never to do this, but I need to vent tonight. I hate it when DH says he'll be home at a reasonable hour and then it turns out he is much later.
I've been breaking out in hives for the past week, I don't know why, but of course I can only take my antihistamine at night when it's okay for me to be out of commission. I figured whatever mystery thing is causing this would resolve in a few days, but it's been a week, and it's really bad tonight. My tongue is swelling up too. I really wanted to medicate around 3pm. Now it's 8:30pm and DH still isn't home!
I put a call in to my GP but they are booking 3 weeks out. But apparently I can call for a phone consult in the morning ... aaargh.
I think that's what the person on the other end of the line said. I sometimes have trouble understanding British accents. Especially over the phone.
Turns out DH was having dinner with a colleague's daughter who is visiting from out of town. He told me earlier in the week and I forgot. But he also didn't remind me when I asked him this morning if he had plans after work :-??
Oh well. He came home ASAP when I texted him that I was having a rough time. He gets points for that.
We moved the cable box to the basement so we were less tempted to watch tv on the main level. We use Chromecast to cast YouTube or Pandora if we really want to watch something, but it's pretty much either music, kids' yoga, or relaxing ocean fish.
We were fairly successful at keeping DS screen free until the grandparents visited with their evil iPads ..... now he turns into a monster when he wants to look at pictures and videos. C'est la vie.
P and I were out playing on the swing set and I was taking pictures of him climbing since I find it amusing he can climb, but not walk, and when I went to make sure he didn't fall my camera somehow made this cool looking cartoonish picture. total mistake, but I really like it. I wish I could figure out how to do it on purpose. Both pics attached just for fun.

@Mapleme Oh no! That sucks. I have definitely cried over wasted milk.
