Cloth Diapering

Random 8/18

I think it's time to start a new one.

I'm thinking of setting a goal this week to not spend any money on lunches (snacks or breakfasts).  I need to be more strict about bringing stuff from home.

Also, I joined a local Homestead group for my town.  Their next meeting will be about making sauerkraut.  And there's a big picture of pink sauerkraut on the page. I think it might be time for me to get involved with my community.

  • I was going to a bfing support group this morning until I found out they make older siblings stay in a playroom next to the meeting room. I chickened out bc I know nothing about the caretakers or how they ensure that each child goes home with his parent and not a stranger. I'm also secretly relieved to be able to spend some more time in my pajamas.

  • DH and have never shared an account. He pays all the bills and I use a credit card that he pays off each month. I have a general self imposed limit I try to keep to. I buy all the household stuff with it; food, clothes ect. My bank account generally only has about $200 in it that I keep for emergency cash or buying him gifts.

My random is it's been raining all morning and our road is a mud pit! But I have diapers in the mail box and am seriously annoyed that I can't go get them.

  • Crap. I think SIL is going to try to guilt me about not taking L to the reunion this year. He will only be 4 weeks old, and everyone will want to pass him around. I'm just ignoring that part of her text. Am I awful?

My triplets can get out of their cribs. This is the worst thing ever in all evers history of ever. So far we have tried lowering their mattresses (to the floor), putting them in sleep sacks, and putting chicken wire over the top of the crib.

OK, I am joking about the chicken wire. BUT I CONSIDERED IT.

They are so, so, so not ready to be in beds. Just being able to get out of their cribs they are now not napping, not getting to sleep until 9pm and are up at 5. We are in hell, to the point that I am actually in tears over this. They are absolutely exhausted so are demonic during the day (but not enough to actually nap, don't worry about that.....) and everyone else is exhausted too.

I really don't know what to do anymore. We are at the end of our ideas. I just needed to get that all out because its seriously effecting our lives/ sanity and I needed to vent.

DS moved out of his crib 1.5mo go. I think it's actually easier to get him down now. Of course, it's a different situation I'm sure. I'll just nurse him in his bed, and walk away. If he wakes up, he just screams and comes looking for me anyways.
  • We have our own bank accounts, partly for business purposes. It's easier to keep track of our own payments from our own students. But we also have plenty of shared accounts. Plus, any accounts we don't share, we go over periodically to look at spending, etc when everything goes into Quicken. I suppose DH is slightly more "in charge" of the finances, but we each earn income (him moreso), each have accounts, each pay bills. Also, maybe an early confession, but I feel totally inept handling money lately. I managed to overdraw my checking account with an automatic payment. Since more students are paying me weekly, instead of the month in advance, I have less cash than usual. And I COMPLETELY forgot about the withdrawal. Then I went grocery shopping thinking I had plenty of cash, but managed to burn through that, and swiped my debit card only to overdraw again. I can't even remember the last time I overdrew my account... Luckily the bank fees are only $5 each, but still. I feel like I can't keep track of anything lately....
  • I couldn't imagine having separate bank accounts. Or even more than one or two joint accounts. Just sounds super complicated.

We have one checking account that we use for everything, a savings account attached to the checking account. (the savings account is empty because the checking account actually makes MUCH higher interest, up to a certain point.) Anything above the high interest limit in our checking account goes into an investment account, where it is either invested, or earns higher interest than our savings account just sitting in the account waiting to be invested. We don't save for anything specific, short or long term. We just spend as little as possible, and save or invest everything else.

My mom has stayed at home since they first had kids, but she has always been the one who paid all the bills and did all the shopping. They have always dealt in all cash/checks, so my my mom literally gave my dad an allowance every paycheck. He has gotten $20 cash every week for as long as I can remember, and usually doesn't spend that.  Anything over that he would have to ask HER for the money, even though it all came from HIS paycheck.

  • My husband and I have separate bank accounts. We have both names on them and could access the money if we need to. Both of us have been previously divorced and just kinda understand the need for our own money. We talk about money openly and keep each other informed of how much money we have or don't have. When I was working, we each had certain things we'd take care of. He got most of the bills while I took on groceries and other household shopping. Now that I'm not working, we still pay for the same things, but I let him know when my account needs replenishing and he'll write me a check. It works for us. *shrug*

@LolaDair I am so so sorry. I wish you the best of luck with your triplets!

My random is I am smitten with a tomato sauce recipe! My mom brought over a gazillion tomatoes and I had to do something with them. This was the magical recipe and was super easy. I have some canned and some frozen now. Now that I've broken my canning cherry, I want to can everything! Apple-picking is just a few weeks away, so here comes cans and cans of applesauce!

  • On the bank account front, we have separate accounts and joint accounts. But DH gives me the majority if his pay and I pay all of the bills and move money into savings accounts and that sort of thing. He sucks with money so this just works better for us.

  • @chickpoo2468 Wearing him and not letting anyone hold him would just make her madder than us not coming at all.

I actually have a pair sort of like those! But the mail box is about three miles away and even with four wheel drive I'm not sure I can get there with out getting stuck. DH has a a much larger truck than I do so I'll have to wait for him to get the mail on his way home.  :((

And my shirt says country boys, not cowboys. My bad. And there's a silhouette of a guy on a tractor.

The looks like a banana republic pants. I have two one black and the other is kaki. They are very comfortable.

Talking about money and bank accounts gives me heart palpitations

The rash on my boob hasn't gone away. It's so itchy. SO ITCHY. I have to wait til the 29th to see the doctor. CJ's only soothes it but is not fixing it. Wth is wrong with my skin??

My dad sucks as a grandpa. SUCKS. We did all we could to encourage him to play with M this weekend. Finally mh directly asked him "do you wanna go over and play with him?" To which he answered no. Just flat out no.

    Edited to delete M's name

Also sorry about your boob. What is up? Why do you have to wait sooo long for a doctor?

Mostly waiting because I'm trying to kill two birds with one stone-yearly pap and skin check. Lol

  • My DH and I are both bankers. We used to both try to take control of the money until I took my maternity leave. Now I just let him do whatever and pray he's not doing anything stupid. It's actually pretty liberating to be able to let go and just let him take over the finances :)

I feel like we need a whole separate thread for this. I've been failing at it lately. Cept I dont think enough other people here do it with food at work....just no spending in general?

I try to bring lunch and snacks to work too. I almost ran out yesterday.

This is one of the best scenes, and this is the only gif I can find of it. So sad.

Our CO detector battery died during the ONE TIME the other week that we were all napping. That thing is loud, yo.
We had a defective CO detector at our rental unit.  It scared me because I had no idea if it was going off, low on batteries, or just not working.  Plus we had just moved in a few months before.

Turns out it was not working properly and had to be replaced.

We have a room off of the women's bathroom.

People go in there to nap and make phone calls all the time.

And then they knock when I'm in there or I have to knock when I'm trying to get in there.  Really people this is the Mother's room, not a nap room.

But people are gross. The chairs always have dried milk stains on the arms. :-&

It had a good out come, and now I wipe down the top of the fridge after pumping (I use it as my counter top).

On a side note, I am so done with pumping.  I've gone down to two sessions a day and now I'm pulling a bag of milk out of the freezer each day to keep up with him.

The only thing keeping me going at this point is the money aspect (I've already invested in a pump) and being able to breastfeed on demand on the weekend instead of making bottles.  He's so picky about his bottle tempature that I don't want to have to deal with it if we are out of the house.

This has nothing to do with babies or cloth diapering.  Just thought it brought up a point that often gets forgotten.
