Haven't seen this posted- a little gem of a read for you all

“The most challenging part was stretching out the feedings,” Alyssa, 31, said. “When we were trying to get it to four hours we would try taking him for a walk in the stroller to calm him down and just distract him for a little bit.”

Hmmmmm?

  • Wtf. I feel like the editors need a follow up to this informing readers that these ppl were given very poor advice.

That was disturbing! How can anyone do that to a baby?! Lol sleep? What's that? Oh right, I have a baby. Those parents are selfish and have no right doing that. I feed on demand and will continue doing so. Yes I'm tired, yes I would love to sleep more but that's not how it works!
She is literally like "zzzzzomgggg my baby wakes up like, all the time to eat, its ridic." What a selfish person! That poor child. I hope someone she knows sees this and bitch slaps her back to reality

    It's a BOY

  • She was surprised in the beginning the baby was waking up 2-3 times a night? And getting 3-4 hours sleep? I would've killed for that some nights! And why was this a surprise?

Psh flame you. I'm there with you. This isn't a 4 year old who needs to wait 10 minutes because dinner is about to be ready. JFC.
  • @lrmrtn I was thinking the same exact thing. I was literally getting 2 hours of sleep. Sometimes 3 or 4 if I was super lucky‌

    It's a BOY

  • I searched for her in fb but she must be hidden. Probably for her own good. She probably got a lot of back lash for this

  • Wow. I've got no words for this. That's just terrible.

  • I kept getting angrier and angrier as I read this article. It's misinformation like this that creates extremely unrealistic expectations for naive parents. And I just can't help but feel awful for that poor baby, probably crying and hungry and wondering why he's not being fed. So sad.
  • I saw this on the news tonight and I literally sat there, jaw dropped in disbelief. I am pissed at the guys who wrote this book and I was so angry at the parents they featured. When the mom was saying how her NEWBORN was waking up multiple times a night and she was sooooo tired I just rolled my eyes. No shit they eat all the time. That is what a new baby does.

  • reading that actually made me cry a little. Thinking of that poor baby crying and distressed and his parents ignoring him. All they've succeeded in doing is teaching him that no one is coming when he needs them.
  • Yes this is the same as 12 hours by 12 weeks! It does not ok for a bf baby as it diminished moms supply plus we all know breast milk is digested easier and we often have to feed more frequently. I'm assuming it also wouldn't work a "snacker" baby like mine who likes to eat 2 punches an hour rather than a large feeding every 3/4 hours. Babies are babies.
  • Punches-ounces. Damn autocorrect.... Sorry!
  • It was on TV too??? Ugh, all those poor future newborns with misinformed moms...so awful. And yeah, what are these parents going to do during a growth spurt? I assume they already missed the first one at 10 days. ..poor baby! Shame on their pediatrician too!

  • Our baby has slept 8 hours a night for a month. There was nothing we did to train her. She eats about every 3 hours during the day.

  • CPS should've been called on these wackos. Typical selfish Long Island a-holes.
  • My kid is wide awake right now. Why oh why!! I fed her 4 oz. she should be good for at least 12 hours! The fuh?

    It's a BOY

  • I hope they learn from this and decide to not have anymore children because of how much of an "inconvenience" it was for them to wake up to feed their son.

    It's a BOY

  • I am up right now in the middle of the night nursing my lo and will continue to do so as long as he needs to nurse in the middle of the night . That article broke my heart!! Training a baby not to eat at "inconvenient times" is ridiculous!! Adopt a teenager if you don't want to worry about MOTN feedings!!!! Couldn't believe the article! Absolutely horrible!
  • My local LLL Facebook page posted this too. It makes me sad thinking about that baby being hungry. It also made me feel for the mom (a little) because her doctors were instructing her to do this. I had a a doctor tell me with my first that if he was nursing every hour that was wrong and I need to set a timer for at least every two. I did it for a day and it was awful so I went back to on demand. That was before I was active on the bump and my first weeks as a mom and felt like "if my doctor said this has to be what I need to do". But then it just felt wrong. So I feel for FTMs that rely on their docs for nursing advice who usually know nothing about bf, and if the mom hasn't found good resources like the bump or friends, then it's possible this kind of crap happens. But then I quickly go to the point of PP's...why wouldn't your mom instinct kick in that this was wrong/this is so selfish.

  • I was this close to writing to those doctors about this last night. I found a website that rates them and almost left a review...apparently these guys are well liked. Im sure they're nice ppl to their patients...all the better to lure them into an evil plan to deprive hungry babies. Im still pissed about this.... clearly.

  • This whole thing makes me feel gross, poor baby
  • Isn't this a little like Babywise, keeping babies on a strict feeding schedule? And didn't that result in babies becoming dehydrated? :(

  • This is horrible, and I don't even get how those doctors can claim that babies fed like this are thriving. If your baby is sleeping 8 hours a night, but only eating every 4 hours during the day, that's only 5 feedings a day. (at 0, 4, 8, 12 and 16 hours). They said in the clip to feed 4 ounces every 4 hours, that's only 20 ounces a day of food. I know my guy eats about 4 ounces (of pumped BM) about every 2-3 hours. If he doesn't get up to 32 ounces by bed time, he'll wake in the night for more (which I sleepily, but gladly give him). The past couple of nights he's woken up after only an hour in bed to eat a grand total of almost 40 ounces in a day! I can't imagine just letting him cry through any amount of time when his tummy obviously wants more!

I just don't understand the logic, why are they trying to "train the brain" to ignore hunger at such an early age? It's not like adults that were fed on demand never learn to stop eating every 2 hours. What bad "lesson" are on-demand feeders teaching their baby by responding to his/her cries?

You're almost there! If you just stretch her an extra hour you can have 12 hours a night...

Someone should have told me starving my baby would work earlier. :)

  • So I was trying to figure out the other day how to stretch out the night time feeds (1.5-2 hours at 3 months!) and silly me was thinking that feeding him more at night would accomplish this. How foolish of me.... 8-|

  • I literally don't understand this. Kerrigan is a good sleeper and for a while she was on the lower end of how much she ate a day - I wished she would have been eating more! 4 hours is just way too long!

  • It's unbelievable. And even more upsetting since an acquaintance just (not at all ironically) shared the article on facebook. She has a 4 week old. It makes me ill.
  • Isn't this a little like Babywise, keeping babies on a strict feeding schedule? And didn't that result in babies becoming dehydrated? :(

I did the Babywise method and it's not quite like that... The idea is just that every time the kid cries, the solution is not to feed them. I did a schedule where I tried to feed the kid every 2.5-3 hours but if she seemed really hungry before then I'd of course feed her. I personally really liked the Babywise method. My kid was sleeping through the night at 8 weeks.

  • This whole thing is so ridiculous, it could by an Onion article. If you want something that is going to adhere to your schedule, please don't have a baby, just buy a houseplant.
