HOLY SEPARATION ANXIETY!

My child screams even if I turn my back to wash dishes. I am DYING. I'm not a fan of the CIO method. Any other tips???

  • By picking them up every time they cry even for a second you are teaching them that if they want your touch then all they have to do it cry it scream. Sometimes you just need to suck it up and let them cry for a little bit. Constantly talk to them when you aren't touching them and they will learn they don't need to be touching you 24/7

  • I've put DS in a bouncer in the kitchen doorway with a toy.  Or, sometimes I play game and play peek-a-boo by hiding my head behind the freezer door and popping out, or do something silly that makes him laugh.  That usually calms him enough that then I can just keep talking to him as he plays in the living room.  Hope that helps!
  • My poor daughter has twins that BOTH freak out if she leaves the room they're in even tho they can still see her AND each other!
  • I bring her exersaucer into the room that I'm working in, and we talk, sing, count, play little games, etc.

It make take a little longer to get through a job, but she understands that I'm not going anywhere, and that she can still hang out without freaking out.

When I wash the dishes I put my LO in his high chair near me and we have conversations.  I sometimes stop washing dishes and play with him a little.  That way he feels like we are still playing together.
this works with us also. i put her in her highchair right beside me while i'm washing dishes and she is (sometimes) entertained for long enough to make it through a couple of loads of dishes.
