Babies: 6 - 9 Months

LO has a flat head... anyone else dealing with this?

If you're dealing with this, or have dealt with this, what did you end up doing? the helmet, or self correct?

LO is currently 6.5 month old. The side of his head is slightly flat from when he used to only sleep on one side (which he stopped doing when he was 3 months). Our pedi is now sending us to a specialist, so I guess we'll see what happens. If it hasn't gone away in 3 months, is it safe to say only the helmet will fix this?

Re: LO has a flat head... anyone else dealing with this?

  • We are going through the same thing right. Our son was diagnosed with torticollis which resulted in his having flat spots on his head. Our Dr suggest for us to look into a cranial band (helmet) and also start physical therapy with him. We are still waiting on issuance for the helmet but have started the physical therapy and it has worked great so far. We even noticed that his head isn't as flat as it once was. We are still going to go through with the helmet once it is approved but I am interested to see how much his head has self corrected on his own.
  • We noticed our son's head was flat at 2 months old. The doctor and specialist showed us ways to treat it at home, but it didn't work. Problems arose with our first specialist and we were sent to a new one.

The new specialist has diagnosed him with plagiocephaly, brachycephaly, and torticollis. We went ahead with the helmet treatment and we do physical therapy on our own at home. He has had his helmet for 5 weeks and we already see a significant change. The back of his head is becoming round and filling in. His forehead is evening out. It is absolutely amazing.

The helmet is easy to care for and it doesn't seem to bug him.

I'm not a medical professional so I can't tell you if the helmet will help or not. This is our experience. If either of you have any other questions feel free to pm me.

@Jerzeygrl732 If you don't hear from insurance in about 4 or 5 days start bugging them for answers. We didn't hear back for about 2 weeks only to find out that the insurance didn't need to do anything and we could have started sooner.

Good luck to both of you :)
