In the neck folds.

LO has some serious moisture/stink issues going on in her neck folds. I wash and dry it everyday, usually twice but it still smells like death. It I
is also bright red.

Is there anything y'all are doing to keep it dry/less Iirritated?

Re: In the neck folds.

  • DD had this. Pedi OK'd Caldesene powder until it cleared up.
  • Loading the player...
  • I know babies can get yeast infections in their little roll folds. I hope thats not the issue =\
  • Have you tried aquaphor?  It seems to be a cure all for all things skin!

  • I haven't really put anything in it. I thought about desitin after its dry but that might be gross and get everywhere.

@SaraJoy00‌ that's what I'm worried about. She's already had like 5 yeast rashes in her diaper area.

  • My pedi calls this "baby stank neck" (very scientific). Sadly, I just have to moist cloth it twice a day and go back with a dry cloth and make sure all the moisture is gone. Pain in the rear...
  • @owlcup‌ can you put baby powder around her neck after you dry it?
  • I wash it, dry it, and then put some coconut oil on it and it goes away within a day or so.
  • We use talc when it gets really bad and i take sure I dry it really well after each bath and if he makes a big mess during a feed I'll wash cloth it.

  • Either baby powder or plain corn starch works to dry this up! Good luck
  • Thanks everyone! Of course I don't have any of the stuff suggested on hand but I washed, dried and put some diaper rash cream on it. Hopefully that'll help some.

  • I also don't use a washcloth on her creases. I put soap on my finger and massage it carefully until it feels clean then rinse. With it being moist from spit up/sweat the skin can get peely and raw. Your finger is softer and won't make it more raw. Dd1 had eczema and her creases were similar and needed to be handled carefully.

My son had this when he was a baby we had to keep it cleaned out dried well and we used baby powder with cornstarch in it to keep it dry.
  • I am having the same issue with my LO. It's so red and looks so irritated. Glad this was posted.
  • I noticed this in my LO's armpits and after washing with water, drying, and putting a little diaper rash cream there it cleared up in a day or two. I guess I should be checking neck folds, too. How the heck do babies get so dirty and stinky?!

We are going through this right now with my DD. I took her to the pediatrician to have him look at it. It was bright red, really raw looking, and stunk so bad! He said it was a yeast infection. He prescribes Nystatin ointment. I have to rinse her neck with warm water, and then dry it really good, then put on the ointment. I lay her on my lap on the floor with a towel underneath me. I let her head hang a little over my leg to get to it. I have to do it 4 times a day for 7 days. Pain in the ass.

It was horrible at first, she would scream bloody murder, but now it is almost gone! I will try my hardest to never let this happen again! Good luck!

  • My DD is such a messy eater so we have to wipe her down with a warm wash cloth after every feeding and dry thoroughly. I'll keep the suggestions here in mind in case I notice any redness (none yet, thankfully)!
