I am curious to hear how active your SO is in going to prenatal appointments for this pregnancy. **not saying SO isn't involved in pregnancy in general
My husband wants to come to meet my CNM and go to the ultrasound appointments at the least, but with his work schedule and last minute flights (USAF) he may not get to come to any . Doesn't help that my hospital/CNM office is 20-30 mins away from the base. Hoping he can at least make the anatomy scan.
For my first pregnancy, he came to all of them. Didn't miss a single one. It is as much his baby as it is mine. This time, I had an ultrasound yesterday and he didn't go. We thought we were just confirming a miscarriage, but he ended up missing seeing the heartbeat! He won't be missing another one! lol.

DH will come to the anatomy scan and the birth (same as last time). FWIW I don't think appointment attendance is all that indicative of an SO's involvement. I would guess it typically has more to do with work/leave policies.
You're right, bad choice of words... I guess I should have said I am curious & left it at that.
Well, this is our first, and right now we are planning on him being involved in a lot of them. He is joining me for my first appointment. But we will see as he may be getting a new job this fall, and I don't think he will be able to get any time off.
I said all of them, but it is likely he will have to miss a handful because of his work schedule. I already know he can't make the next one... but he wants to go to all of them and would if he could. Maybe I'm actually a special snowflake.
He'll only come to the anatomy scan, baring any complications. He has the flexibility at work and probably could come to all of them but I don't see the point.
My DH is lucky enough to be off for the summer as a teacher, but I wouldn't want him to miss work for a 15 minute check. He will be at all the major appointments.
We are 45 minutes away from my doctor's office. My husband works full time and is in graduate school full time. Unfortunately he just doesn't have the time to go to all of the appointments. He went to the first one. He will also go to the NT scan and the anatomy scan.
Regular OB appointments are pretty uneventful. You pee in a cup, get weighed, they measure you, and listen to the heartbeat. It usually takes like 10 minutes.
DH is a teacher at a boarding school 30 mins from our house. There's no way he can make most of the appointments, but we will make sure to schedule the anatomy scan when he can be there (and I'll try for others, but we also have a 3 year old, so if it's after work hours, someone has to be with her, too). And he's the most involved dad ever.

SO is very involved and doesn't want to miss anything, but no way am I dragging him to every appointment. 90% of them are just me peeing into a cup, standing on the scale, and talking about my feelings. DH doesn't need to be there for that so I'd rather he not take the time off work or watch DS if he's not working that day.
ETA: I answered he'll be at the a/s only but we may not even get that. But I'll get him to one appointment to meet whichever caregiver I settle on and ask any questions he has.

I’m a modern man, a man for the millennium. Digital and smoke free. A diversified multi-cultural, post-modern deconstruction that is anatomically and ecologically incorrect. I’ve been up linked and downloaded, I’ve been inputted and outsourced, I know the upside of downsizing, I know the downside of upgrading. I’m a high-tech low-life. A cutting edge, state-of-the-art bi-coastal multi-tasker and I can give you a gigabyte in a nanosecond! I’m new wave, but I’m old school and my inner child is outward bound. I’m a hot-wired, heat seeking, warm-hearted cool customer, voice activated and bio-degradable. I interface with my database, my database is in cyberspace, so I’m interactive, I’m hyperactive and from time to time I’m radioactive.
Last pregnancy he came to most of them but now since we have a toddler it's easier for him to stay with him when I have the minor appointments. He'll definitely come to the bigger ones!
Hubby went to the first appt & will go to the anatomy scan. I don't feel the need for him to be at the other appts since they are basic check-ups. Should any issues arise he will come with me, other than that, DD will be with him so I can go.
My H went to every appointment last pregnancy, every check up my son has had since birth, and will come to all these checkups. Yes some of those appointments are pee in a cup and listen to heartbeat, but he does not mind. Several of those appointments are U/S, and anything that involves a blood draw, he is 100% needed due to my phobia. He just makes a habit of being present for all of it.
I clicked SS. DH wants to go to all the appointments, but I think he's forgotten how short and boring they are. I hope he is able to make it to the NT and AS, but other than that there's no reason for him to be at every single appointment.
My husband has said he wants to go to every appointment. He is in law enforcement so he has a nice schedule for it right now, but not sure once he changes shifts in September. It really doesn't matter to me either way.
He'll come to all the ultrasound appointments. It's pointless for him to take off work to sit around while I pee in a cup, get weighed, and have my blood pressure taken.
SS - He works 6pm-6am (haha, thats a joke, he works 5:30pm-6:30am) and has an hour drive to work, and I schedule my appointments as late in the day as possible because I have to use FMLA for my time off so he'll go to whatever ones he can make it too.
The last pregnancy, my husband went to all of them. Since I worked retail and mostly nights, I could schedule them at 7:00/7:30 and husband could be to work close to on time. However, I now have a teaching job where I have to be there at 7:30, so those times don't work anymore. Now I have to schedule them around 4:30 and he's not sure if he can make those.
None. DS1 he came to all ultrasounds and one doctors appointment. DS2 he came for one ultrasound. This time I don't expect him to be at any appointments. He does try to watch the boys for me while I go to my appointments though. So that counts for something. He has a very involved job which makes it difficult to get away.
During my previous pregnancies, DH came to the anatomy scan, and to the c-section pre-op appointment for DS. Maybe one or two others. Even when his schedule was more flexible, which isn't the case now, neither of us felt like he needed to come to my routine appointments.
DD born 10/10/07 * DS born 11/25/11 * #3 due 3/9/2015
Probably just one (any random one he can so he can meet the new doctor). He works an hour away and we aren't going to find out the sex so he won't be at the appointments.
With DS1 he came to every appointment. He was a grad student with a very flexible schedule, and I was at a birth center with long appointments and flexible scheduling.
With DS2 he came to pretty much all of them because I had such bad HG that I really couldn't drive.
With this one he'll come to all the u/s (I've had 4, but from now on it will be every 3-4w) and the appointments I feel I need him for. My next OB appointment is to discuss my HG plan, so he'll be there for that.
My guess is that H will come to as many as possible, his work schedule is much more flexible than mine, and he wants to be involved/informed. Plus he sometimes thinks of questions I sometimes forget, so that will be nice. Plus if he has questions, I want him to get it from the horses mouth.
My H wants to come to all of them. We both have odd hours and are both off on Mondays so I've tried to make them on Mondays so far. We make a date of it.. Dr appt then lunch or something. That's not to say down the line a Monday appt won't be available and we can't coordinate it. But for now, he comes to them all.

Same. Dh has no interest. I love my husband and he is great but unless he happens to be home he won't. Even if he happened to be home I'd imagine I would rather him stay back with dd. And I agree this counts for more.
Of course he will be there on the day but he came to the anatomy scan and whined about the wait the whole time last time. Plus kaiser is annoying and makes you go in first and then make sure you're safe at home and then let your dh or whoever come in. I'm sure this policy is in place for a reason but honestly it's easier to go alone.
I said all of them, but it's not because he's just the typical involved dad, but he's coming for me, and to support me because this is our first pregnancy after a late loss.
Ooh thanks for clarifying. I thought you meant safe at home as in you made it home safely after the appt lol. My DH would be pissed if he missed the a/s. Hope this is not the case at our kaiser. I'm told we get to watch a movie at our first appt. wtf?
Just the ultrasounds. That's what we did my first pregnancy, but I felt like I was always sitting alone in the waiting room while every other pregnant lady had a SO, parent or friend with them. But MH would be bored at appts where they just take your fundal measurement and hear the HB.
I don't know, DH is gone every other month, but he seems interested! Our first appt. is set the day after he gets home because he said he'd like to be there if they will schedule after he got home!
This is our first and most likely only child, so I think H will be at every appointment he is able to go to. He travels a lot for work, so I won't be surprised if he misses a few, but he will definitely be at the big ones.
