High-Risk Pregnancy

Please help? Bedrest ?

So today I went to the perinatologist and found out that I have to be on bed rest because my baby not getting enough nutrients but he stated that I am gaining weight appropriately and I am over exerting my self. I really don't get it please explain. So confused.

Re: Please help? Bedrest ?

  • I've been on bedrest for 2 weeks now due to HBP. I'm 18 weeks. Women who have HBP tend to have babies with low birth and are prone to preeclampsia and eclampsia. So for those reasons I'm on bedrest. Usually bedrest happens during third tri. My Perinatologist said that with HBP sometimes it prevents blood flow and oxygen to baby. Why are you high risk?

  • I'm on modified bed rest due to abnormal spotting /bleeding. Hope you all are doing okay - mrsroberson and squeaky <3
  • I hope you get more information about what's going on. Maybe ask to go see a specialist. I am on strict at home bedrest now because I have leaked almost all the amniotic fluid. I'm only at 20 weeks and they are giving me very little hope that I can stay pregnant long enough for the baby to be ok outside of me. Bedrest sucks but if it's helping for any reason then I'd do it until you get a second opinion. Keep us posted.
  • angieddaniel,

That sounds very scary. They say the amniotic fluid keeps regenerating so hopefully it can turn out ok for you!! T&P's for you!!

I am also on bed rest for high blood pressure. I have just been on bed rest for about a week. Prior to this my blood pressure was controlled with labetelol now it's not responding as well. when I lay on my side especially my blood pressure is normal like 120/70. Is your BP normal when laying or is it still high? I am Thank G-d already 37 weeks but would prefer not to be induced if I don't have to be. Would love to go into labor naturally as induction is no fun! I want my baby to get a chance to grow as much as possible. If I had to be induced I'd rather manage till 39 weeks. So I'm doing my best. I do have a toddler at home so it's not so easy but I'm trying.

What do you do for bed rest? like do you stay in bed all day except to eat? Who does the laundry or cooks etc.?? I get up for short bouts to take care of my toddler put in a load of laundry or put something quick in the oven. Not really cooking.. Last week Thursday my BP was low for a few hours so I got a lot done but so far it hasn't been behaving this week. This morning when I sat up it was 153/105. I layed down really fast after that!

I wonder how bad it is when it goes up like that even if it's for just 5 minutes so that I can go to the bathroom.... If I were in the hospital I'd be able to lay even better. I know hospital is no fun but then I'd have no choice but my doctor hasn't spoken of that at all. Basically if I lay and my bp is down he won't induce.

Everyone else, So how are you doing today?

  • @Hopeful Bumbie‌ Hi there! Your story sounds like mine with my first. This is my third and its been a different story. When I found out I was pregnant at 5 weeks my BP was 190/117! They immediately put me on Labetalol, which helped for a month and then they would increase my dosage every other week. When I reached about 14 weeks they added procardia because my BP was staying around 150/90's. Procardia has made me feel really crappy. So about 16 weeks they decided to placer on mod bed rest. Now my laying down bps are as low as 117/77 and around 130/80's.

Basically I go from bed to comfy chair in living room to bathroom to kitchen. I'm really fortunate because I have older children, a 23 yo step-d, DD is 14, and DS is 11. DH is amazing in the kitchen, with laundry and rallying up the three to clean up after themselves.

I was really active before, I mange a optometry office, along with actively volunteering in my church community and going to school working towards nursing degree. So the hardest thing for me has been overcoming this feeling of uselessness. Lol I told DH that I feel as if I'm not being a productive part of society lol He looks at me says: oh trust me you are lol

With my first I was induced at 37 weeks because my bps were staying on a high side, also my urine kept popping positive for protein. Induction ended up not working and DD's heart rate dropped so a CS was the method of delivery. She was perfectly healthy! 5lbs 11oz! And has given me the least grief when it comes to her health.

Now DS was a scheduled RCS again at 37 weeks... With him the concern was growth restriction at about 20 weeks. Sure enough he was a bit smaller at 5lbs even... But again perfectly healthy! Slight temp issue. But that's about all. He developed asthma really early on and had rough. Now he's 5'2 and solid as can be!

I'm sure your LO will thrive the same way!
