Coming out of the TTC#2 closet and questions about cycling

So I haven't wanted to confess that we've been trying for #2, but we have since I got my period back (for a year) and absolutely nothing has happened. My period returned Memorial Day weekend of 2013. I'm getting +opks around 14 days with around 28 day cycles. We are unexplained. 

I'm not really a planner, but with our IVF cycle with J I didn't know what to expect and everything seemed to take longer than I expected. 

So help me get my sh*t together. 

Here is my scheduling restriction, I have a business that I run May-August. Being pregnant or even majorly pregnant is no problem, but having the baby during that time is not ideal. Or at least I'm not paying an RE to also close my business for the summer. I would welcome a surprise BFP anytime!

I think we would like to try one IUI (which we didn't try last time) and then head to IVF again, since that worked last time. 

So here are my questions. When should we do all the pre-cycle testing? I think we would want to cycle in January (puts due date in late sept-early oct). I'm also still breastfeeding J, so I would need to wean, but I would like to wait as long as possible. Please add any other advice or ideas!

I just wanted to say co grays and GL! I'm terrie with planning. But yeah, if you want to have the baby after you are done for the season, you seem on track. But then you would need to call the RE a few mo the in advance to talk about what retesting will be needed.

That's so exciting that you are trying for #2! I'm sorry nothing has happened in the last year. The only testing my RE required was the infectious diseases blood panel - he said they need that within a year of treatment. I am also unexplained, but I would check what your RE requires. They all seem to do things a little different. It sounds like you have the timing just right. I will hope for a surprise for you before January! Good luck!

I had to do a repeat SHG and blood work, DH had to do a SA and blood work. The SHG you could do now, since that typically has to be done before you ovulate.

I would do the testing in sept so you don't get surprised if extra stuff comes up.

We had to do infectious disease bloodwork (both of us), I had to do cd3 bloodwork, a HSG and a mock transfer since we were going right to IVF again. I did it all over two cycles, since the HSG and mock needed to be done around the same time in a cycle and I didn't want to use a bunch of days all at once. I'd call in the fall and tell your RE your plan and they should be able to give you a list so you could figure it out. Good luck, girl!

I had to do a repeat HSG and DH a SA, but nothing else. Most tests should be good for a year, so if you wanted to get a head start I'd say do them in the next couple of months. Good luck!

Thanks everyone! I knew that we would need to retest some of the labs and SA. I think I needed to hear what @luvboston‌ said and get going on the testing just in case something needed to be sorted out between now and the end of the year.

Ugh I'm so nervous about getting dragged into the IF vortex. I really love my life right now and I'm scared to start with the RE again.

I totally understand how you feel @Mrs.AmyDylan ! 

When we went back for our FETs, I had to repeat bloodwork, have a saline sonogram and a mock transfer.  Nothing for DH since we were doing FETs.  I would just get that over with since the testing will be good for a while.

My clinic told me to call three months before the month I wanted to cycle in.  They required records for a pap and mammogram in the past year and then they did their own blood work and did another mock transfer and hysteroscopy.  No testing for my husband as we are planning a FET.

I would do pretesting in Dec-jan. For me I did my pre-testing in april because I stopped bfding in february and was told I needed to have around 60 days of no breastfeeding before doing my testing. If you do IUI,  start your cycle for may or june to have your baby in time to be working in may. Both my IUI fell on july 2nd for both of my boys. I had both babies in march. I hope that helps. GL. If you cannot deliver between May and September I would get whatever testing needs to be done completed by November and your first medicated cycle in December.

I found that TTC reopened a Pandora's box of ugly emotions. Wishing you the same success that most of the PAIF ladies have experienced.

Check with your RE about the weaning. Mine only wanted 1 month post weaning before I could start meds again, but some SaIFers at the time had REs that wanted them to be weaned for 3 months. 

When ttc#3, I weaned at 16mo, did the clomid challenge testing at 17mo, and did my first medicated cycle at 18mo. 18mo was the earliest I wanted to start because I did not want 2u2. It took several more cycles so I had nothing to worry about!
