Bottle during the day? WTH?!

Holy change of baby patterns. My little one is teething and she now wakes up during the night to eat or just cry and she nurses great at night. But now she doesn't nurse well during the day! She will eat for oh about two minutes then arch her back and scream. But if I pump and put in a bottle she's still gives me a fight but not as bad and I can get her to eat. I love nursing but I guess if this is what we gotta do for a while then ya just do it!

Re: Bottle during the day? WTH?!

  • My DD is doing the same, but she has always had shorter than average nursing sessions. If she does not seem hungry/fussy during the day and you have no concerns about weight gain, I wouldn't "force" a bottle feeding. Just go with her cues. If she's done eating, she's done. She could be really efficient now.

If you think she's distracted while nursing, try feeding her in a dark, quiet room.

  • Oh the teeth!

I found that when this happens, I have to give him a frozen toy. We walk around with that and my boob out. Eventually he turns his head for the boob.

Poor baby and poor mom! Good luck!

This, too! Sometimes I can entice DD with a pacifier, too. Once she starts sucking on the paci, I can take it away and she'll turn and begin nursing.

  • Thanks, I'm so going to try this!
  • YES! I get worried because my frozen milk stash is SO LOW now because I feel like I have to resort to a bottle. I pump, but I get NOTHING (like 2 oz out of BOTH breasts) and before I could fill up two of those medela bottles! Anyway, she nurses fine at night. During the day she is as happy as can be, but I can tell when she's fussy and ready to sleep/eat but she won't nurse. I'll wait it out, but sometimes she will go as long as 5 hours between feedings...as soon as I give her a bottle she's guzzling it down! So that makes me feel like I've been starving my child! I figure she'll nurse if she's hungry enough, and soon enough I will have to resort to that. And I'd like to keep her on BM rather than introducing formula.

I've introduced her to solids and I've noticed my milk supply drop since then and admittedly I haven't kept up on pumping like I should...I am starting to now, but it is a tedious process. Any other mom's in the same boat please share your thoughts or suggestions!! And thanks for letting me rant...

  • @jadederek It could be a nursing strike in which case you just want to keep offering the breast and if she refuses give the pumped milk in the bottle.  Try to offer the breast when calm or sleepy and she will be less likely to fight it.  Babies are weird sometimes and will fight things for no reason.

  • I hear ya! I have been pumping for a lot of feeding now and it sucks! I'll admit I should be pumping every three hours but man I do not like pumping. But I'm with you is rather have her on BM than formula. I'm waiting it out hoping this wil pass
