GM Prefolds & Workhorse Question

Hi Everyone! Quick question... We didn't start our first in cd's until she was 8 weeks because we went with the sized BG's back when they were making them. Halfway through the mediums we switched her to the Freetimes and LOVED them but those won't fit our newborn (due this Oct). After digging around a bit on here, we decided the GM Workhorses and prefolds would be best but I'm unsure of how many. I was thinking 12 newborn workhorse, 12 small prefolds, 2 newborn prowrap covers and 2 size one Thirsties covers. Would that hold until we can throw her in the Freetime's? Thanks for taking the time to read! Happy Friday!

I'm a workhorse girl myself. My little one was almost 9 pounds when he was born and the prefolds only lasted a week or so with the snappi. He is currently almost 12 pounds and he can still fit in the workhorses. I would definitely recommend more covers. I couldn't get the prefolds to hold in poop. I have a couple newborn covers that I posted in the swap thread if you have any interest. They are bummis and two are brand new with tags.

  • More covers.  Unless you are cool with hand washing them in the sink if need be.  But as a busy mom and newborn poo that may squish out of the prefolds/WHs, it might be a good idea to get a few more covers.  And I would suggest a 6-12 more prefolds or WHs depending on how much you want to spend.  Closureless WHs will last longer.  Maybe consider getting size small WHs since you already have 12 NB.  They may be bulky at first depending on how big your baby is.  But they will really help in the transition from NB to OS.
  • Definitely more of everything. And I am normally not one of the 'buy all the diapers' people. But really, you want 30-36 newborn diapers. And at least 6 covers.

Also, I am not sure if GMD small prefolds will fit very well under newborn Proraps (which were my favorite nb covers, btw). I would get nb prefolds.

  • What everyone else said....more changes and more covers if you plan to wash EOD. I would go with snap-less workhorses - they will likely last until your BG's fit. I stopped using the NB snap-less about a week ago at about 6wks/11 lbs.

Thank you so much everyone! It's funny how quickly you forget the newborn stage...
