Trying to Get Pregnant

Miscarriage and Conception

How long did it take you to conceive after going through a miscarriage? I just had one at 9 weeks. We are ready to start trying again. My doctor said to wait 3 cycles.

Re: Miscarriage and Conception

  • I had a very early MC at 6 weeks and I never had a cycle in between, I got pregnant immediately following the MC.  I would follow your doctors advice and wait if that is what you were told.

  • Thanks. The doc said she tells everyone that after a miscarriage.

  • I'm sorry for your loss.

We were told to wait 2 and did because the dr said so. It takes time for your body to get back to "normal" after a loss. It took another 4 months before we were successful.

  • I would do as my dr suggested.  I am sorry for your loss and wish you well
  • I'm so sorry for your loss.

Definitely listen to your doctor and wait for the time frame she gave you.  It was really hard for us to be benched after my loss (I had a missed m/c at almost 13 weeks), but we knew if we didn't listen and then had something terrible happen again, we'd never forgive ourselves.

To answer your question, I had to wait one cycle.  It then took three cycles to get pregnant again.

  • After the doctor suggested waiting period, 1-3 cycles of actively trying and good timing.

However, it's still the standard 20% each cycle with good timing and it can take up to a year for a healthy couple.
Son: Jackson, 11/02/06, stillborn due to PPROM and IUGR. Over the next ten years we had 9 miscarriages from 8-14 weeks. On May 18, 2016 my daughter, Ridley, was born. We're OADNBC.
  • Some people DO, in fact, get pregnant right after, or even the cycle after. There are stories all over of every situation you can possible imagine and some come out wonderfully, and some don't. The best thing you can do, honestly, is do what your doctor told you to do and go by that. There are stories all over the internet of babies being born after the mother took the abortion pill, getting pregnant immediately after a MC. But that doesn't make it right, normal, etc. What's right for you is to go by what your doctor told you to do.

  • As pp have said, listen to your Dr! Personally I got PG the first cycle trying after my first loss and the second cycle trying after my second loss. This does not include the cycles I was benched after both losses.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. I was not actively TTC when I got pg with my daughter after my 2nd loss. She was a birth control failure. I wanted to wait a little longer but life is what happens when you make other plans.

Definitely listen to your doctor. You can avoid infection & give yourself time to start the healing process that lasts the rest of your life.

    The best to you.
