LO up every hour and I'm on my own...HELP!

For the past week, LO has been waking up every hour the entire night. It was bad enough when my husband and I were taking turns, but now he's out of town for the week. Any tips on how not to lose my mind? FYI, I'm working all this week, so LO is at DC during the day.

  • Accckkkk I am so sorry. Anyone you can call? A night nurse? (Seriously. @rosiepeare, didn't you have someone comes once ? Or was that someone else?)

Is your LO waking up hungry, or just wanting comfort? Teething? JBBB?

  • You can hire a nighttime nanny or post partum doula that will help. They aren't cheap but could help in a pinch and maybe offer suggestions to help solve the sleep issues. Google post partum doula or post partum mothers helper for hits.
I hope to create a real siggy but first I need some sleep!

  • Really, really, sorry. I second seeing if a family member or friend can come help for a night or two. (((Hugs)))
  • Hugs! Could LO be teething? If so, a dose of Tylenol might help you both get some sleep.

Thanks! I never thought about a night nurse before...maybe if I get desperate! Unfortunately my mom is out of town too :( My MIL has offered to help but -- while well-intentioned -- she's a bit crazy and I think would stress me more than help. I do have a friend I may be able to get over, but she doesn't have a ton of baby experience, so she may be good for either an evening nap or just for overnight company to keep me from losing it.

Not sure what's up with LO -- it could be so many things. Took her to the pedi today to rule out ear infection or the like, but they said she seems ok. She just wakes up crying and crying all night. Thought it was maybe teething but we have her Tylenol last night and she woke up even more...so maybe not?

I'm trying to stay positive, but I seriously wanted to cry when my husband left this morning!!

We ended up co-sleeping during 4 month wakeful when he was up every hour. Also white noise helped him stay asleep a little longer. I wish I could offer more help, I know it's so hard, I'm sorry. :( If you can't get someone at night, if you could get your friend during the day at least so you could nap that'd be good- maybe during hours LO is usually happy and wants to play so she could just play with him on the floor or something?

I'll be at work during the day, but if it's bad enough I may be able to come home early from work and take a nap before I have to pick LO up!

Just talked to DH and he really wants MIL to come over tomorrow evening so I can get things done before LO sleeps so I can sleep when she does. Worth a shot I suppose!

Just tried to sleep and she started crying 2 min later... Feeding now but then I may resort to rnp

@carissalynp How long did 4mw last? I think this could be that...

  • I second cosleeping. You won't ruin sleep habits or anything like that. Your survival this week is what's important, and I think that would be a huge help. You can respond to minor cues before she fully wakes up and is crying.

Going to bed at the same time tomorrow would be an awesome idea, I hope it works out that you can.

In times like this, my mom always reminds me that:
    "This too shall pass" (hugs).

Just to update, I put LO in the rnp and she slept through the night!! She must be having some issue with laying flat I guess? This could save my sanity this week, but I don't want her to forget how to sleep in the crib! Maybe up until a certain time I should keep putting her back in the crib?

Wow -- I'm just so happy I got some sleep! Of course now I've overslept, but I'd rather have that problem I think!

  • I would definitely use the rock and play for a few days until you feel like you are a little caught up and then try the crib again. My daughter has a bad cold and the congestion is waking her up A LOT. I feel your pain.
