Short Version:
Peter Matthew was born via vaginal delivery without epidural last evening at 7:17pm and weighed 8lbs, 19inches long!!
longer version:
Let me preface by sayin I'm very tired and mobile typing so I apologize if this isn't too coherent. Anyway! At my 40 week appt on Monday, my midwife determined that I had been having prodominal labor for almost 7 days and that I needed a little push to get the real labor started. So we planned for an induction using only cytotec if possible. So we got to the hospital Wednesday at 7:30am, and I got 1/4 dose of cytotec inserted vaginallg at 9:15am. I walked around, bounced on a ball, etc and around 10:45 I started having contractions but if was super maneagable. I even sent DH out for lunch and our moms came and sat with me. Around 11:30, my midwife determined the one dose was working beautifully and I wouldn't need another or pitocin! Yay!! Over the course of te next few hours, things started picking up where my contractions were 2 min apart but I was able to focus breathe through them. I got in the jacuzzi tub for 30min and when I was checked at 4:30pm I had gone from 3cm to 8cm in like 2 hours!! They said the jacuzzi tub must have relaxed my body so much it just dilated super fast. At that point, I was having a hard time focusig so I asked for some nubain, which is a pain med that doesn't take away pain but it kind of makes you sleepy and drunk so you can rest in between contractions. I LOVED IT! Lol. For me, the hardest part of the whole labor was when I started transitioning and shaking. I thought "OMG why didn't I get an epidural!" But my midwife and DH were incredible. They had music playing and my midwife was helping me get through contractions. It was honestly the worst pain of my life and I didn't think I was going to make it. I just kept praying to God to give me strength. Transitioning from 8 to 10 cent. took about 2 hrs to get ready to really push and I was delirious and crying and couldn't hold it together but as soon as I started feeling the pressure to push it gave me something else to focus on and i think I pushed for an hour (maybe longer) and they kept rotating me from pushing on my back and side to make the most progress. I have to admit.... I always heard that the ring of fire was so horrible, but when I felt that I was so excited I didn't care!! I knew he was almost here. And he came out pretty calmly at 7:17! We did immediate skin to skin for an hour and he latched right away.
I am healing very well, only having a small tear that needed a few stitches. Overall, this birth is 100% better than DD's! We will probably go home tonight or tomorrow morning. I have to admit, Its just now hitting me that he is truly here, healthy and my rainbow. It's been a long two years of sadness, loss and worry. I think I didn't actually believe that he would be here! Like it was a joke? Or wasn't real? I'm just so happy to have him here and so grateful for this blessing
