Did you/when did you tell on Facebook?

I'm thinking we need to let friends and associates know sometime soon.  We definitely don't talk to all of our friends all the time, but I still feel they would want to know that DW is pregnant.  I think it could be really rude to just be all, "Here's the baby!" in Jan. Did you tell the sex of the baby, or leave that until the birth?

Especially because we live so far away, we feel we need to do something; we certainly won't run into them at parties or dinners or the grocery store.

Is Facebook telling okay?  When did you tell?  Did you tell in a simple post or do a photo or more?

Thanks, Community!

We did an FB announcement on Thanksgiving, which was about 13.5 weeks for us. Before we did the FB announcement, we made sure to call/text/email anyone who we wanted to tell personally who we wouldn't want to just find out on FB. Our announcement was a slide show.

In terms of the sex, our situation was unique! Haha
We did tell friends and family (and post on FB) that we were having a girl after our anatomy scan. Wellllll, then we had a boy. So our "He's here" post after he was born contained a little more "surprise!" ...
Not sure we will ever "find out" the sex in the future and/or announce it if we do. But our situation is rare and a little whacky...

  • I like this question!!! I'll be 11 weeks on Sunday and we are going to wait I think at least until our first ultrasound. My plan was to just to post the photo on there...I have a lot of friends from all over that matter on FB and it makes it easy. We are not telling anyone until our first ultrasound too...and part because my firefighting season will be almost over and I don't want to hear everyone freak out despite the fact I've got the go ahead from my midwife.
  • I waited longer then most to announce but finally decided it was time when people at work were asking if I was pregnant (such a rude question to ask) so I announce at 18w thru an ultrasound pic and saying "Here comes trouble July 2014" Sadly a week after announcing I lost her.  Like PP said I made sure family and close friends knew prior to announcing on FB and mainly just announced so I didn't have people keep asking me.

I haven't decided when/if I will be announcing via FB this time around.

  • We told my mom and sister the day we got our first positive, close family on Christmas (we got our first beta back two days before)and announced it on Facebook just before 10 weeks. We knew it was early, but it was becoming a challenge to keep a secret because my sister was also pregnant and my mom was beside herself with excitement. We found out the gender at 14 weeks and announced it on Facebook with a onesie saying 'princess in training'.

  • @ herbabymama- I was planning on telling my family last by email. I'm somewhat close to my parents but they have been on the slow train of support ( didn't come to my wedding and certainly no congrats) oh evangelicals@@ Anyways I know they are going to struggle with it so I was honestly thinking like October or even November? That will give them a few months to prepare. I wish I knew congrats were coming : (
  • I now realize after reading all these posts that we waited a really long time to announce/mention on fb. We told family early but waited till 24 weeks before saying anything on fb. It was Halloween and We took a photo of @mamosey in a pumpkin shirt and posted it saying baby's first costume.

We announced on FB around 15 weeks. It has been so dumb to (re) -see everyone's announcements. Here is ours! We also know what our babies sex at birth will be, but besides close friends and family we don't plan on making any big announcements!

EDIT: I didn't mean seeing them again was dumb! It autocorrected fun to dumb... My apologies!

  • Our parents and close friends found out the day we found out we were having twins via us telling them all in personb or with a phone call and we announced on FB around 17 weeks, after our initial results for the CVS tests came back. Because of the testing we knew the sexes but we didn't tell anyone until early December during a reveal party. (AKA an excuse to eat lots and lots of breakfast food with good people) It was so much fun to have! We had two clothing boxes with A and B labeled on them, and we each opened one and held up a blue (A) and a pink (B) onesie that was inside.

I barely ever put pics on the internets, but here's one of us during the reveal and my mother in law and brother in law watching via google hangout since Mom in law lives far away, and brother in law was super sick.

  • I love all the ideas for announcements. We announced Kaden at 20 weeks (after a loss we were cautious). Owen we announced around 15 weeks after we had determined the sex.
Both times we let close friends and family know first.

We told my Sister a few days after our first positive test.  She was overseas and I just needed her to know.  We told our parents around 12 weeks (I happened to be in NYC for work so I was able to tell mine in person).  We told a select few other friends after that.

We announced on Facebook at 14 weeks (looking back I cannot BELIEVE we announced so early - I'm a born skeptic) with an ultrasound pic, and verbiage "Coming soon to a rugby pitch near you ... Baby XX-ZZ.  Formal introductions to be made in March."  (We were both rugby players)

To this day it remains one of my favorite things on FB to go back and look at; such wonderful comments and so much love!
