I've read a few places that moms should be able to tell what their baby wants/needs by their cry... I seem to only have 3 cries coming out of my LO... Pissed, more pissed, and really pissed... Am I the only one that sucks at this?
It all sounds the same to me too. Sometimes I think I hear one cry and when I try to satisfy that it totally doesnt work. My LO is 4 weeks on Tuesday so I'm hoping maybe I can still learn them.
We know the hunger cry because he gets all crazy when he is hungry, so it is more his actions than the cry, he punches and kicks and huffs when he is hungry. All the other cries sound the same but I can tell by the way he is acting what he needs and if all else fails he has a wet diaper
I'm with Elsa, 9 times out of 10 C is hungry when he cries. Last night he was in pain from gas, totally different cry. Much more sad than his hangry cry.
I know the "I'm hungry" cry, the "I need to burp and/or fart; help me" cry, and the "I'm pissed because I'm in my car seat cry." The rest are a mystery.
LO's cries do sound different, but they're also accompanied by other signs. I would say to look for other signals, such as what your LO does with his/her hands and body.
Hungry - a rhythmic cry that only follows when the other signals have failed to get her fed... grunts, growls, sucking (of either both hands or nothing), rooting, looking around.
Gas - loud with a slight vibration, arches her back, sometimes has a startled expression.
Tired - this one sounds way more distressed than the others. She may suck her thumb and will calm down when held.
Witching hour - we haven't had this lately, but it sounded like a velociraptor enacting a scene from MacBeth.
Yep. The video above really helped us! I can tell the difference between both babies cries too, they sound different.
I feel like a bad ass when someone's holding the baby and they're like "oh she's hungry! " and I say, no that's her burp cry. Then immediately after they burp her she's good and quiet.
Stella fusses a lot before her hungry cry, roots around, and tries to gnaw on whatever us closest to her. Its pretty easy to tell when she needs to eat. When she's got a wet/dirty diaper it's much more frantic and pissed off but her gassy cry sounds very similar to this one so I still get them mixed up.
I think I can tell between his hungry and gassy cries but its more a timing thing and getting to know his schedule. When he wakes up- he cries bc he's hungry. When he fusses its bc he wants something- paci, swaddle, diaper change. And when he gets the intense cry and turns red its bc he doesn't like the current situation and whats it to change i.e. wants to be held, bounced, over the shoulder. He does have a really cute what I call his 'fake cry' that isn't really a cry at all but a pouty 'whaa' bc he's about to be upset but not too pissed yet…
I go by body language for hunger, because 9/10 times she won't cry right away if she's hungry. But once she does it goes from a peep to full blown crying fit in .5 seconds.
Her gassy cry is different. She sounds almost like a little lamb.
She doesn't seem to fuss for diapers. But that could be that I change them before she has a chance to fuss/cry.
DD has three specific cries. 1. I'm starving, 2. Come over here so I can make sure your still here & 3. I know I'm not happy but I don't know what I want. The I'm starving cry is my fav cause it's such a fake cry but strangers would think I neglect her and haven't fed her in days.

D only has "eh" which is burp me but that's because his tummy is so sour all the time. He's on scheduled feeds so he really doesn't get the chance to get hangry. His poor bum is now sore from his liquid poops. Hopefully his new meds and a formula change help him. It breaks my heart to watch him in pain.
She mostly just fusses but when she's hungry and if we're in the car and can't stop right that second, or on a walk and almost home, she gets so pissed off, she turns bright red/purple and holds her breath while she's crying. You'd think someone was getting murdered lol

Every now and then he throws an "I'm overtired" cry for a curve ball.
