  • I'm going to complain on here too. I have been asking since we got married for a king size bed. H likes to be right next to me which is great when we first go to bed. I love a good snuggle. I do like my own space when we are actually sleeping though. I'm a very light sleeper and any time he touches me I wake up. We argued about it again last night. He says we can't afford it, which isn't true. I'm glad he's frugal but I'm going to get bigger and have less room.

DH came down with something flu-like yesterday (all over body aching and fever), and I felt kind of sick this morning, but I don't know if it's normal pregnancy stuff or that. Ugh! I hope I don't get sick!

I have a blood test and ultrasound today, and I'm nervous! Also I wanted grits, but things got busy at work, and I didn't make it down to the cafeteria in time. Pizza for lunch though because it's provided at a work meeting - woohoo.

  • Not really a WTF, but I went outside just a little bit ago to pull up the green bean plants, as it should be too hot in the season for them and a few plants are yellowing from either heat or blight...  Instead, I found enough beans (and also tons more flowers on the plants) that now I will have to blanch some beans today.

Totally weird, but I'll take more "free" food (at this point, our investment in seeds and the water has been more than paid for).

  • 1.  i <3 my doppler.  i've had a mild-ish tummy bug the last couple days, but i've never so much as had a cold while pregnant, and the doppler has saved my sanity.

    2. it's 10 after 11 now and i've totally pissed away the morning doing nothing.  now i don't have the time to shower before DS will be coming home from summer preschool on the bus.  lol.  i seem to do that a lot during mornings when DS is at preschool.

    3.  i'm at a loss for what to make for dinner.

Would any of you ever move to a different country for a good job offer your SO got?

(pretend in your scenario that your H is already a citizen of this country, btw).

I know, too hard to answer and 50 million cons and pros and open ended question.

@MusicFanatic-- Yes.  Although I told DH he had to turn down the offer to go work for 2 years in Kuwait 3 years ago (Edit, it might have been 4 years ago now, because I don't think it was the same year as getting my BFP with DD).  I'm sorry, but hazard pay not too far from an active war zone wasn't worth it to me (Kuwait shares a border with Iraq).  If it's not a hot spot for military action, I wouldn't mind.

He actually is working on cover letters right now and a few of the companies I know he wants to apply to have offices in places like Japan and I thought maybe one European office, but I forget where.  I'd NEVER turn down an offer to go back to Japan.  :)

  • @kayham12‌ So... want to hear something funny? DH had a "supertwin" water bed when I moved in with him. We were both much smaller 10 years ago. We still have that bed (but with a real mattress in it, because formerly pregnant me kept getting stuck in the water bed if he got up before me), and we still sleep in that bed because we just haven't bothered to upgrade it. We outgrew that bed YEARS ago, we have no room. I often get shafted and end up with about 8 inches of space, and DH makes sure the dog (a 30lb lab mutt) has plenty of room to stretch out, while he sleeps dead center of the bed.
DH and I had a king sized water bed when we first got married.  We got rid of it when I was 8 months pregnant with my 1st - it was a PITA to get out of that bed whether DH got up before me or not! I was so happy to have it GONE! But, we downgraded to a FULL!!! OMG that was tough! Many nights I'd end up with baby sleeping next to me and DH just had to deal with having less space than usual.  Granted, we were both much smaller 8 years ago (WOW, can't believe it's been that long since my first!) but still, it pretty much sucked.  Eventually we upgraded to a California King, which we kept up until late last year, and now we have a regular king.  Sleeping in anything smaller is weird for us.  We like sleeping on our own sides of the bed and not having to touch each other in the middle of the night :)

I know, too hard to answer and 50 million cons and pros and open ended question.

    Sighhhhhh.
A couple of factors go into play here. Does he already have a good job where we are? Is family a priority here? Are there family or friends in both locations? Do you enjoy traveling? I wouldn't even move out of state when DH wanted to (before we were even married). We're in Illinois, he wanted to move to Las Vegas (he had a job offer, and a small chunk of his family lives there). Most our family lives here, I still can't cut the umbilical cord between me and my mom, so I told him if he wanted to move, he could, but there was no point in us staying together because I wouldn't move. He had a great job here, our family and friends were here, and Las Vegas isn't where I wanted to raise my family. I also hate to travel, if I never left Illinois for the rest of my life, I'm cool with that. He refused the job offer and is totally happy with his decision. He saw what an asset it was for us to have my baby crazy family around to babysit last minute if we need it, he's friends with all my relatives, and he's actually happy staying put. But without knowing your opinions on thingsthat would factor into my decision, I can't really give you a good answer. When do you need to decide?
I have 1 month to decide.
He has a great job here, the new job would be the same exact job but a 30k ish pay increase (which is a lot, obviously).  It would be in Canada. My H is from Canada and has dual US/Canadian citizenship.  I'm a US citizen, however, so I'm trying to figure out the process (which is a HUGE factor in the decision) because I can't just up and move to a foreign country. (I believe at some point we have to do a spouse sponsorship.. but I'm trying to figure out what I need to do before that, because that process/visa can take 1+ years).   That's the big factor. So I'm combing through immigration sites for the past two hours now, and I'm overwhelmed.

We have both friends and family here and there.  He was born and raised there, he only came here for school.  Most family on that side is there. My parents are here, but my parents are retired and LOVE to travel.  It would be a 7 hour drive for them to visit from where we are now.  Soooo do-able.  ALL family on both sides (including me) LOVE to travel.  No biggie.  It will be hard to move away from my mom, especially with baby on way... but we've lived a LOT of miles apart plenty of times, so a 7 hour drive is Ok.

I would not be allowed to work right away, of course.  That's OK too.  I would miss what I do, it's my passion.. but as long as I can partake in some ballet, I'm good :)  Plus, I can eventually attempt to look for something down the road when I'm allowed.

I think my major factor right now is WTF I'm doing to live there legally.  The process is confusing me, so I need that figure that out.  Plus I need to look at housing costs, schools, stuff like that.  And I feel like 1 month isn't long :(

    /end book. Yikes, sorry.

  • @MusicFanatic‌ depending on the country, but if it was say a stable European country then yes in a heart beat. We have talked about this before and we aren't looking but I would move back to Europe. I'm not as familiar with other countries but if I feel like it was safe and an opportunity for my future kids to have a great experience and learn languages then yes!

  • Wow @MusicFanatic‌. A month is REALLY not a long time. I feel for you. It sounds like you already chose yes though, and all that's holding you back from being concrete about it is figuring how to live there. I have no words of wisdom for you, but I wish you tons of luck. I wish you had a little more time.
@sassquatch - I guess my initial gut decision was yes because it's REALLY exciting H.  He would love to be with his family again. And we DO have a bunch of friends there because we visit as often as we can. I could just see the look in his eye, you know?  He keeps telling me over and over "it's 100% FINE if you decide you're not up to this".. but I don't think it's fair to just brush it/him off and say no immediately because of my nerves.

The other thing holding me back and that I'm researching is the medical system/midwives/having baby (etc etc) over there.  I know things are done differently, and I have no idea what it all entails for me when I'm not a citizen. Or period.

And no, a month is NOT long :/

  • @sassquatch- no friends to ask, really.  All of the US friends have always been from here, none of the Canadian friends have ever lived in the US- two totally separate sides and friends, both of which have always lived in their same/own countries.  I've located some immigration boards that appear to be pretty active and busy, so have asked a few things there and I'm combing through all the posts. I've learned some things, but not everything.    I will definitely ask my in laws if they know anyone who can help us, though!

I thought of staying here for a bit, but I really would prefer not to.  I KNOW eventually we have to do spouse sponsorship and that can take a looooong time to get.  I'm researching temporary/vistor visas to see if that's what I need, but I dunno yet.  I'll get there.. it's just confusing as heck.   It would be nice if I could just pack up and legally live there because he's a citizen and bringing me- alas, not how it works.  HE can do so.  He can legally pack up, move there and work.  I just can't. Stupid immigration laws.

What I really need is a vodka. But.....lol.
Thanks for listening to me babble :x

  • @MusicFanatic can't you get a temporary visa pretty easily to go? And then work out citizenship when you get there? Sorry if this is completely wrong. I am very unfamiliar but have heard things from people talking before.

  • @MusicFanatic‌, I'm Canadian and happy to answer any questions I can about living in Canada. Where in Canada would you be going to?
  • @MusicFanatic‌ have you tried contacting the Canadian consulate or embassy? They might be able to help answer your questions. Good luck! That sounds like an amazing opportunity!

  • I actually have an acquaintance on FB that was US and went to Canada because of her husband. I believe she went through the whole process like you anticipate @MusicFanatic. I can contact her and see if she can give me a short version of the process if you think that would help you?
@Firefly3911- would you for me? If you don't mind?? I don't want to be a hassle to you.. if you promise it's not a bother, I would REALLY appreciate that :)

    I may do that.

Any of you guys from Canada know the OHIP eligibility for a non-citizen and pregnancy?  I read somewhere I can be eligible as long as I turn in perm. residency application and they deem I meet qualifications.  Then I read it can take 3 months to be covered.  My answer will be a flat out no if it takes 3 months to get health coverage :/ I can't have that while pregnant?  And I read a lot of private insurances don't cover pregnancy there if already so.

  • @Firefly3911- thank you soooo much!

I've read around on health coverage and see a midwife in the area that will work with you and do payment plans... but I don't want to be screwed if I end up high risk for some reason and need more care than typical or something.  I have read baby would automatically get covered as he/she would be born there.  It would just be me.  I believe it takes 3 months.  So actually, If we left say... August 10th, I would only not be covered until November 10th. So the birth would be covered, just not the 3 month span I'm waiting.  Not sure that's worth it?

My head aches and I've totally overtaken this whole thread. Sorry guys..lol.

  • @MusicFanatic‌ I just asked my friend about OHIP. She has been in Canada for a year. She is not eligible for OHIP without citizenship and she is still going through that process. She has private coverage through her husband's employer (Canadian military).
There appears to be a law (more recent) that states someone who just puts in application for perm. residency and qualifies can get OHIP, but it still takes 3 months from the time I land there. I don't think I would be covered under my husband (he would work at a school)... I imagine military is quite different?
