Trouble TTC

Cramps After Eating Post HSG

Posted about my HSG anxiety over the weekend (thanks for all the support).  Had it yesterday (everything was clear). Pain during and moderate cramping yesterday after.  Felt much better this morning.  Had toast for breakfast and I felt fine.  Then, around 1:00 I had a salad for lunch.  I was eating while working, so I was munching on it slowly.  About half way through, I started getting cramps again.  Not awful but moderate.  They aren't tummy/gas cramps, but menstrual cramps.  Came home and still have them.

Googled it and couldn't really find anything.  Just thought was strange.  Maybe it was just a coincidence.  Anyone else have this?

Re: Cramps After Eating Post HSG

  • Congrats on your clear HSG! Glad you got it done with. :)

Cramping is really common after any manipulation of the cervix. It jumpstarts cramping, as can the dye within the uterus.

My personal experience was continuing cramps that required Tylenol for the first day, and then random cramps for a few days.

If you're wondering about it starting while eating - I guess it could be coincidence, but I've found with Crohn's that digestive "movement/action" and menstrual pain can set each other off.

If you are concerned about the duration or intensity of the cramps, I would call your RE's office for reassurance/advice. :)

  • Thanks, guys.  I think it might be from sitting in the office chair all morning...maybe causing pressure.  It's not hard, but not a soft as the couch.  They are kind of random now.
  • I'm glad you got good results from your HSG! Sorry about the cramping though, I would say if it's making you concerned I'd call the REs office just for some reassurance. Hope you feel better soon!

  • I couldn't stand up straight for a day or so following mine. I think for whatever reason I had more severe cramping than most but wow it was bad. I would say treat it as you would period cramps (Tylenol, heat). Good luck!
  • Hey guys!  Much better today.  Except for the weird gross grey-matter-discharge.  TMI.  Haha.
