XSweetieO0O, we own. We bought our house about 2.5 years ago. We weren't really looking but we found a brand new subdivision that was offering $0 down payment because it was in a "rural" location. We are about 10 minutes from shopping/restaurants/gas stations but we are near Houston so 10 minutes is nothing really. The city is expanding closer and closer to us so I'm hoping our land will appreciate a bunch in the next 3-5 years then we plan to move.
@XSweetieO0O, we rent. We're not really interested in buying here; we have this dream that we'll buy a house out West one day. We've always said we'd leave the city around the time a kid started school, so I guess we'll be stuck here until 2020ish!
Awaiting our bundle of cute chaos.

I would much rather be a grape than an olive for the record.

I guess I must be a weirdo but I talk and sing to DS the entire time we are in the car. He's not a car sleeper for the most part so we entertain each other. I don't have any clue how I could forget him. But, as a safety measure I leave my purse in the back seat where he sits. I've heard of people taking their left shoe off and leaving it in the back seat so they HAVE to look back there. I would be more afraid of my H forgetting him because he doesn't typically take him anywhere, but DS is pretty vocal so it helps. So heartbreaking to hear about, though!
I think the purse trick is really good. Wallet works the same for men. My husband would know when he stood up and it wasn't in his pocket.
I saw on the news in response to these babies in hot cars, a boy made a simple rubber-band & duct tape invention to remind parents that a baby's in the car. He has a website with a tutorial so you can make one yourself; it's kinda adorable.
yummmm Nando's. DH leaves Thurs for the weekend. I think I will need to justify a trip for some yummy chicken.
The only reason I am not grumpy today is because I am not at work. I seriously have a short fuse at work right now and I hate it. I am never the one that is grumpy or a pain or whiny, but the last week and a half I have been.
DH said well its good you notice because that means you can correct it. Yeah well I am trying but the hormones are making it extremely difficult.
another random for the day
I started sewing a maxi dress about 2 months ago (a super easy pattern) but I have been too lazy to finish it. all I have to do is sew 3 pieces together but I just can't make myself do it.

Nail on the head right there--they said it usually happens when it's an off day, or an off parent, since it's not their normal routine. Too easy to just hop on the highway to work and end up in the parking garage without realizing it. So so scary. Definitely checking out that tutorial @flutterofyoshis linked!

We rent. We are legally barred from buying all but the most expensive properties here; so we're renting at least until we get kucked out.
@pitdigger - Not to pry, but can you elaborate? I can't seem to wrap my head around this.

@irishcurls Well that is totally understandable, I imagine that requires a whole lot of moving!
@aks01 I feel like its so different than our parents time. We have my DH student loans which are large, and our car. I had no student loans by the grade of God and my Dad's planning, and now can't wait to get rid of these ones!
@jaztaz1 How was living at home with the rents? I'm kind of nervous to all be under one big happy roof. I'd love to hear how that was.
@sugahcookie01 Congratulations on owning, that's such a feat!
@thegoodpotato Because of all of the renovations we've done if there is asbestos in this house we have disrupted almost every nook and cranny. I really try not to think about it to avoid going into a panic.
@jaytee16 I understand that for sure, when we buy it will for sure be a starter house. We do what we can with what we have, right? And with twins, I can only imagine how you're feeling.
@megano19 that is amazing, $0 down. I hear Texas is the place to go for beautiful affordable homes. If it weren't for family I wouldn't feel so locked to Chicago. Especially with how your winters must be.

So we paid my parents $400/month, helped with groceries, and every so often we I would snatch either their cable or cell phone bill and take care of that too. I thought this was pretty reasonable, especially since my rent at my apartment was $980 (and we still had to pay for all utilities, cable, food etc...). It wasnt too bad at first. My parents gave us a spare bedroom, and their entire basement as our own space. Se we set up their basement like our living room/dining room. I worked out of state at the time, so I was only there on weekends mostly, and DH worked the night shift so he was sleep during the day. I can say that, once you have been out on your own, having to go back to sharing space no matter how accommodating, is annoying after a while. I was glad to have the annoyance as a motivator to get out though. lol

My DH and I live in Bermuda and are non-Bermudian. As part of the (understandable at times, but bat shit crazy at others) immigration restrictions, non-Bermudians cannot own property unless it is in the top, I want to say, 1% of assessed annual rental values. I don't remember the exact percentage, but there are only about 250 properties that cleared for non-Bermudian purchase. Non-Bermudians who own property here include: Silvio Berlusconi, Ross Perot, Michael Bloomberg, and McGraw from McGraw-Hill textbooks.
It wouldn't necessarily have made sense to even think about buying here because up until last year, non-Bermudians could only stay for 6 years maximum.
The property restriction you can kind of see as Bermuda obviously doesn't want all of the residences being bought by people who don't live on island, but the tightness of it may be restricting economic recovery on the island.
That's it. F15 GTG in DC soon, we'll be having Nando's for dinner.
There's a high-ish likelihood of us ending up back there when baby is about 3 months old. I'm going to look at zillow.com for funsies right now. Man I miss it there. Anyone ever go to Cava Mezze --basically Mediterranean Chipotle. Also known as heaven in your mouth.
@jaztaz1 That's what I figured, but it's so nice to hear from someone whose been there. I may be leaning on you for support once we move, ha. My rents have been begging us to move in, but we're not telling them that we'll agree to it until after our u/s tomorrow. I don't want to bring it up prior to the HB.

Walked by it a lot when I worked in Bethesda, but haven't tried it. I'll add it to my list (I'm always finding myself in Bethesda for some reason).
Another DC fave: G Street Food. I'd love their grilled chicken sandwich right about now.

So I absolutely get fruit envy... which is crazy because Im in the beginning of Feb anyway and only a few people are "ahead" of me fruit wise. But every time I see someone post with a bigger fruit I get all huffy and puffy... and on the same note, my other pregnancy app has this week as a green grape. I would much rather be a grape than an olive for the record.

Me too. My u/s pushed my EDD two days later. When I changed my ticker my first thought was I would be a raspberry for 2 extra days. But why couldn't we be a green grape? Olives are yucky. Especially green olives!
A related flammable confession is I have had mild envy of friends who have announced their pregnancies recently and are due before me. I mean seriously self you ARE pregnant get over your self.

No one ever told me how much of a waiting game the first trimester is. Although I'm sure I'll appreciate it when I'm as a big as a house and getting way too much attention over it.

I think the thing with @pitdigger is that they're in a foreign country (in the Caribbean somewhere, can't remember).
Likely the country has rules around what properties foreigners can buy so that foreign money doesn't price the locals out of the market.
