I have wavy hair that I straighten and have always had good luck with Biolage, Matrix and Redken Brands. I can't speak to their shampoos/conditioners for curly hair but the smoothing ones are awesome and smell great.
I used to work at a beauty supply store in college and Tigi's Catwalk "Curls Rock" leave in conditioner was a popular item bought by curly haired girls. Girls would buy it in bulk and swore by it. Might be worth a try.
You could also try using a curl shampoo and a smoothing conditioner. As the smoothing won't take away the curls but will most definitely assist with any frizz you might have. If you feel like just the conditioner is not enough switch to a smoothing set. We have Color Proof, Bamboo andMoroccan oil, which are amazing. Most of my curl clients that experience lots of frizz use the smoothing line!
Curls need moisture. Lavender mint is NO where near enough moisture. Try something that is a low lathering shampoo. Redken curvatious, deva curl low poo, I even really like the paul Mitchell curls line. But you need more moisture
Curls rock has worked ok for me. I find its not so much the shampoo and conditioner that makes my hair frizzy but how i diffuse it or what product i put in after my shower. Hair has to be very wet, i brush out smooth, put in mousse and spray with a curl enhancing spray. Comb through and scrunch with fingers then diffuse.
I switched to sulfate free after getting a keratin treatment in May 2013- the cheaper version I'm using a year later is loreal ever pure and I have to say I like it.
Talk to me about your products after washing- I find that has more bearing on my curly days than the actual shampoo/conditioner...

I go between Frizzease shampoo and conditioner and the Clear brand. I've tried almost all shampoos and conditioners and curling products and honestly I've never been able to tell a difference in them. Waste of money to me really. I do really love Herbal Essence Tossel me Softly mouse. It's the only product I have used in years. No matter what I wash my hair with it feels great with the mouse. Nice soft and definite curls.
Going sulfate-free with your shampoo is a good way to keep your hair from drying out.
Something to remember: if you go sulfate-free, you may also want to make sure your conditioner is silicone-free. Any ingredient that ends with --cone, --conol and --xane is a silicone. Silicones are what most "serums" are made of, and they are the ingredients that cause the most build-up. Most people use silicone-based hair products to smooth down their dried-out, frizzy hair caused by sulfates; however, most silicones can only be removed with sulfate surfactants, so you're left with this vicious haircare cycle in which every remedy you come up with makes the problem worse.
Some people with curly hair have success washing their hair with a very lightweight, silicone-free conditioner (think Suave Naturals, VO5, etc.). My hair is too thin and fine to enjoy that kind of treatment, but it may work for you. Check out THIS Wiki-how on following the "Curly Girl" method of haircare.
Extreme curly hair here... And I use herbal essence shampoo and conditioner and tresseme mousse and hairspray. I only wash my hair about 3 times a month and that really helps with all of the frizz. I do shower everyday and reapply hairspray and mousse.
Have you ever used the "It's a 10" product line? I swear by the leave in conditioner but the shampoo/conditioner is great too! My hair is very curly and can get coarse if I don't keep it moisturized. I can tell a huge difference when I don't use it.
I love It's a 10. Also look up the Deva curl line, @lisaren, some of my clients have been using it along with their how-to tips which you should be able to find online, and their hair has never looked better! Eta- generally clear products such as gel and especially shampoo are drying, whereas lotiony creamy products are your friend!
I have a hair appt Friday so I think I'll wait until afterwards to switch. He always does an amazing brazillan blow out and I don't wash that shit for weeks after

Those are the BEST. If I ever hit the lottery, I plan to hire someone to give me a Brazilian blow out every two weeks. I would never wash my hair on my own again!! Haha
I have weird ass wavy/curly/frizzy hair, and a total "fuck it" attitude to beauty, so I'm probably not really the one to give advice. I just use whatever shampoo and conditioner, but have found that using Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Moroccan Sleek Oil Treatment does wonders for my hair. I tried a few other Moroccan oil blends, but this one keeps my hair soft, shiny, less frizzy and it doesn't get weird and oily and weighed down. Plus, it is cheap, and I am frugal.
With the Deva Curl line they have a low poo and a no poo. I never recommend someone who is switching from a lathering shampoo to start with the no poo (Zero lather, feels like conditioner). Start with the Low poo (little bit of lather). But their "Deva method" is amazing. Good luck!
I have curly hair, and I use kms moisture repair. I use Morrocan oil and a leave in conditioner. If you wrap your hair in a tee shirt and now a towel I find that helps me!!
It's a 10, Deva, and Ouidad are my favorites. Terax is a great conditioner but super pricey. Sometimes it's half off on some websites. Good luck. My curls are one big dreadlock right now
I'm black and Hispanic and have very thick and curly hair. I use Mane & Tail shampoo and conditioner and I use the conditioner for styling as well (I leave it in all the time).
My hair is super curly-like tight ringlets curly. I use to NEVER wear it straight until a couple of years ago when I found a regimen that works for me. I use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner regardless of whether I plan to go natural curly or straightish. I rotate brands as I find my hair just gets wonky after a while if I use one brand for too long. I agree wih the PP who said the products are more important when going curly than the shampoo/conditioner. I use it's a 10 leave in mixed with a curl cream (either Aveda or Redken). If it gets a bit frizzy, I carry a small spray bottle with a dilute shower conditioner mixed with water and spray it liberally and rescrunch.
Re: Those with curly hair..
I'm going to Ulta tomorrow and buying one of everything!
