Babies on the Brain

Hiya

I've been lurking and thought I would say hi.  I was hanging on the Feb 15 board, then I had a miscarriage, so I'm feeling kind of homeless - not ttc yet, not pregnant, just hanging out on the bump.

I'm 29, I teach high school, I live in New York and I have a 2 year old son.  I like to camp, hike and convince myself I like running.  I enjoy snark, reading threads even if I don't post and staring at gifs.  I don't like whiners (which currently includes my son - what a fun stage!), posting from my phone or being cold.

Anyhow - hi!

Re: Hiya

  • Welcome! So sorry for your loss.
I also dislike being cold and posting from my phone.
I like hiking and am also trying to convince myself that running is fun again. I need to stop taking such long breaks from it, it would make life so much easier.

  • @14whitney: What do you teach?  I'm at the high school level and wouldn't have it any other way.  I just wished the kids didn't hate history so much from the get go.  And pluto will always be a planet in my heart.  Have you heard of the 2 Skinnee J's?  They have a song called "Pluto is a planet" and it's pretty great.

@PB&J714: I am signed up for a half in October, so that's going to be motivation.  I want a GPS watch - I'm convinced that a gadget will make me love running ;)

  • @helanahhandbasket: thank you.  I'm not originally from NY, but now I live in a rural county between Pok and Albany.  I don't love it, don't hate it.  :)  How about you?

  • I've been considering just signing up for a half to make myself run. I just wish I could get DH on board. It's so much easier for me to train with a running buddy! GL in October, @plutoisaplanet

  • I'm another teacher (8th grade Language Arts in Pennsylvania-- and I also love the age group I teach!)  I loved your comment on the teacher timing board  about the first lesson of having kids is that plans don't work out!  It's great advice!  I'm glad you are here after your loss.  I hope you find it therapeutic and a humbling lesson for others.

I also enjoy camping and hiking.  I did my first half marathon in May.  It was terrible idea!  Ha!  Just kidding, but I also still haven't convinced myself that running even resembles fun. I had a running buddy and that helped A LOT!  I also signed up in advance which made me train just for the sake of not wasting 80 bucks.  I didn't even have a smart phone to use for training, and I think having a gadget would have made it slightly less painful... slightly.  I did run this morning though-- that's how I justify creeping on these boards all afternoon.  :-)  I also hate being cold which makes me SOL living in northern PA.  I'm actually cold right now.  No good.

I love all the smarties on this board!
  • @princesslolli:  Thank you for the welcome!  I've lurked here before and always found this board to be nice one - not too overwhelmingly busy but definitely a core group that posts here.  Perfect!

My son was born 6 weeks early, in the middle of grading a state exam - so he taught us that lesson early!  It's one I've held onto since :)

See?  I'm convinced that a gadget is the way to go!  Now to convince my husband.

I am always cold, and I actually had my thyroid tested as part of a pregnancy panel and it came up high (I have Hashimoto's but my TSH generally remains normal).  I'm hoping the synthroid levels it all out and I can finally stop wearing a sweater when it's 90 ;)

  • I actually did a long term sub for a girl who tried to time delivery for May, but also had her son about 6 weeks early.  She missed state testing, then I got bronchitis and strep throat right in the middle of it!  Thankfully, the kids took in in stride!

When I asked my husband to do the half with me, he said "Sure!  ...  Wait...How long is that again?  ...OH HELL NO!  Forget that!"  He will run with me sometimes but not on my "death marches" as he calls them.

My mom had good luck with synthroid, so I hope you do too!

Oh, and I also maintain that Pluto is a planet especially because "My Very Excited Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas" is a million times better than "My Very Excited Mother Just Served Us Nothing.  Or Noodles.  Or Nectarines"  Even "Nachos" lacks the proper level of enthusiasm that "Nine Pizzas" provides. :-)
