High-Risk Pregnancy

Average delivery date with Placenta Previa

I have CPP at 17 weeks. I had my first bleed at 11 weeks, which left a softball sized blood spot on my sheets. The second bleed was at 14 weeks at work. It was bad enough that they thought is been stabbed. I bled all the way out of the building (3 floors). Put on bed rest for 4 days, and still on pelvic rest. I bled for 2 weeks after (brown spotting.) The perinatologist seems to think my previa is unlikely to move based on its location, and are talking about putting me on bed rest and potentially in the hospital at 24 weeks if this does not get better. I wanted to know of the women who bled this early, how far along were you when they ultimately had to deliver your baby?

Re: Average delivery date with Placenta Previa

  • I was diagnosed with CPP at 17 weeks as well when I had a bleed out of nowhere. I was on home bed rest for about three weeks and then on activity restriction.  We found out around 24 weeks that it had "moved" and was now just "low-lying."

From what I researched and read on the internet, the course of PP is very variable with some people never having any bleeds or complications and delivering on time (although c/s if previa still there) and others having frequent bleeds, bed rest, early deliveries etc. I'm not sure if there is an average gestation or not with PP.

Bed rest is tough, and if you are put on it, definitely check out sidelined.com and there is also a Facebook group. There is a Facebook group for PP and Placenta Accreta support as well.

I'm sorry you are going through this.

I was diagnosed at 20 weeks with my second child, bled te first time at 27 weeks, was hospitalized 7 times, and never returned to work. My scary thing was they said mine has resolved, but I had the terrible bleeding the day my water broke at 37 weeks. She was born by emergency c section, and when they pulled her out they were surprised that I still has a significant previa. The only thing I can say is listen to your doctor, come here for support, and bedrest is likely. It sucks, but the baby was always fine. I had to have the steroid shots at 27 weeks (my first bleed), but she didn't come for 10 more weeks. She is healthy and will turn 5 in November. I recently found out I am expecting #3, and my first appointment is in two weeks. I can hardly wait to find out of everything is ok! Let me know if I can support you during this time! It's scary, but baby is almost always ok :)

  • Thank you guys for your replies. I'm trying to stay positive and it seems that most cases with CPP do eventually end well. I have read the horror stories though. This is difficult for me to wrap my brain around because I know there is something really wrong, but overall, this pregnancy has felt great. I'm having my second little girl and I'm naming her Penny. I like to think of her as my lucky little Penny. The whole thing is scarey, but I'm trying to set short term goals to distract myself.... Make it to 20 weeks, the. Only 4 more weeks to potential viability, then only 6 more weeks until we are 30 weeks, etc. For now, I'm living my life and waiting for what's next.
