June 2014 Moms

*Born to Run Junebugs*

This is a weekly thread for runners who are due in June 2014, that is posted on Mondays. All who run--or who want to start running--are welcome, regardless of mileage, pace, ability, size, shape, or terrestrial status. This is a place to talk about running while pregnant, training, runs, races, gear, recovery, nutrition, and whatever else we can think of.

Anyone who posts here regularly should feel free to start the thread on Mondays if it seems to be missing.

How were your runs and workouts this week?

GTKY: Favorite workout/running song?

Re: *Born to Run Junebugs*

  • How were your runs and workouts this week?
Actually really great.  I ran 3 times for 7 miles total.  I was only going to run 2 on Friday (just like my Monday/Wednesday runs) but I felt so good that I kept going!  I also swam 3 times, and went for a couple long walks...

Almost anything by the band Blue October.

  • How were your runs and workouts this week? I'm happy with how I did this week. I got two 5-mile walks in and one 4-mile run. The run was actually more comfortable than the walks for some reason. It's like I feel every little movement when I'm walking but when I'm running I don't feel it at all! I felt like I could have run longer after the 4 miles but I had been keeping a pretty strong pace (~10:30/mi) and didn't want to push it.

GTKY: Favorite workout/running song? I don't listen to music when I run. Ever. I know, I'm weird.

  • great job ladies!  i am so proud at how each of you are doing so far along!!  as i said before, it really helped me with labor and i know you all will agree when your LO's arrive :)

no working out for me yet.  unfortunately due to tearing i am still recovering but it has only been 12 days (but who's counting lol).  i am getting anxious to take my dog for a walk with baby boy!  hopefully this week will be the week!

  • Sorry to hear you're still sidelined, @lola4411‌. I hope you can start walking this week!

  • thanks @babygabe614!  its pretty frustrating to be this sedentary especially since i was so active during pregnancy.  i am enjoying my LO and i know i am not far from getting back out there :)

can't wait to read all your birth stories!

  • I walked 3 miles this week (which was four 15min walks). I have to stop though. I have a thrombosed hemorrhoid that has to be incised by a surgeon. I'm in so much pain.

I run to Pandora station: Pop and Hip Hop Power workout. I particularly like the song Like A G6 - I always seem to get a boost during that song.

I've been walking 2 - 2.5 miles a day for the last 5 days. I'm going to walk this baby out of me if it is the last thing I do!

My current "power song" is from Kanye West, "Black Skinhead". I have no idea where I am going to hide my (embarrassingly extensive) Kanye music collection when this kid is old enough to access it!

@Mease8‌ My husband is weird like you! Loves to run to podcasts...

@babygabe614‌ You must be so Zen to go without music! I'm actually pretty jealous of the focus.

Has anyone started to run again after giving birth? I feel really good and went on a few runs, but I'm a little worried that it isn't ok to be doing. Anyone know why typically people wait 6 weeks?
  • @TonyaCody06‌ I love that G6 song! Lol

  • You ladies rock!

Running still seems hard and now that it's so hot, it even more hard!  I have to go in the middle of the afternoon when DH gets home so it's the hottest part of the day.  I'm run/walking 8 minutes running 2 minutes off for 30 minutes which is more than enough for me right now.  I'm thinking that strength training will help a ton which I will start tmrw!  Luckily, Julia likes the stroller now so we are walking 30-60 min each morning which is nice!

I listen a lot of country and some pop stuff.  Most people think my taste in music is awful

Kinipela7 When did you start running after your baby was born? Have you had any pain or increased bleeding?
  • @Mease8 love that article!  thanks for sharing

  • @jldcjs - I had a VERY easy delivery and didn't have any stitches at all and my bleeding went away after 2 weeks so I ran a couple weeks after when I felt ready.  I ran very slow and a very short period of time.  I was also active the whole pregnancy.  It didn't feel great but it was okay.  I was told I could do what I wanted when the bleeding stopped and if I did anything to cause bleeding then I would know I did too much and to take a rest, but it never came to that!
