Una Mierda Suave

Aka "A soft shit". Sooo I'm one of the few who hasn't had their babe yet and am wondering what you used for a stool softener. I went to Target today and the pharmacist said to eat a lot of prunes (not a big fan) to loosen things up as they're safe while breast feeding. I'm more interested in Dulcolax or Ex-lax (or a shit-ton of coffee) bc they've worked wonders in the past. Were you given softeners at the hospital similar to these or prescribed some that are considered "safe"?

    You could try larabars as a way to disguise eating dates, which seem to work similarly to prunes, and get that labor rolling!
  • My doc said Dulcolax suppositories are safe, however I've tried twice during pregnancy and they haven't really worked for me.

  • Colace is safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding.  Trust me, you want to take it.

  • @InternationalKate I wish I had known about the suppositories. Nobody ever mentioned it to me. Being backed up is one thing, injured is another. Wish I had you for my nurse with my son! :/ I already got my Kristalose powder ready to go! ;)

  • My OB allowed Miralax. I found it very helpful.
  • My OB said basically any stool softener was fine (I have been taking a generic OTC one daily since 1st tri) but to avoid laxatives. I also drink a shit ton of water and take fiber supplements, magnesium, and try to get a lot of fiber from my diet as well.

    Thanks Hun...sometimes you just gotta attack the problem "from both sides"...

    @Lilygrace48‌ - 50mg or 100mg Colace?
  • @RedMar‌ i take 50, though by choice, not by doc orders. They didn't mention a dose, just to start with two pills and work my way up as needed. I react strongly to most meds, so I bought the smallest dose and started there.
